  1. John or Russ, I answered on one of your original post's a few weeks ago. In 1982 a nickel was not issued by the AACA so you can stop looking for one. I do have a 1985 that I can send you. I also told you that the USPS will not allow the wooden nickels to be sent in ordinary postage because it jambs their machinery. They require USPS "If It Fit's It Ships" boxes, that are around $10.00. If you decide to go that way I will give you a 2020 Hershey wooden nickel "The Year That Wasn't" that I usually charge $1.00 for. I do not have an 1983.

  2. John, I can send you the '85 and '90 Nickels. The problem is that the U.S.P.S. will not accept nickel's in standard envelopes, they jamb their machines or the nickel's get broken. What they require is that I use the small boxes provided by the U.S.P.S. and that is around $10.00 shipping. If you do decide to go this way I will give you the rarest HERSHEY wooden nickel there is, the 2020 Nickel. If you recall the event was cancelled in 2020, but I had them made as an exact copy of the HERSHEY wooden nickel that I normally sell for $1.00, I have sold 100's to collectors that want to have a complete set.

  3. Oh I agree totally West, but the AACA should enforce the rules somehow. I saw two guy's on a golf cart with orange vests on and the guy with the motorcycle went right past them with out them saying anything.

  4. West, I agree totally with you. What really tick's me off is the golf cart's that ride 6" from the flea market tables and then expect you to get out of their way so they don't have to get off the golf cart to look at the parts on the tables. I saw every type of motorized carts, bicycles and even two motorcycles. The AACA warnings are a joke, they should just tell everyone do as you please if they aren't going to enforce the rule.

  5. Gary, I'm lucky I know how to turn on my computer let alone post a picture. The decal-sticker I'm looking for is for an accessory Volkswagen gas tank, commonly called a "landmine" gas tank. Rumor has it that they were made from left over german landmine casings, not true. They were made by a company called Hammerich & Co. during the early '50s. I had a 1958 European Volkswagen and when I sold it, I kept the tank. The tank fits into the center of the spare tire wheel and the one I have holds 8 liters. From what I have learned they are fairly rare, I talked to a couple VW people at HERSHEY and both want it. I have a color image from literature I found at HERSHEY last week so I'll take it to a sign shop and see what they can recommend.

  6. Where do you go to have made decals or stickers for parts that I have restored?  I have pictures of the image but what was left of the decal was destroyed during the restoration. I would like to have a new one reproduced to complete the restoration. Most places want a production run of a few hundred but I only need one.

  7. RockAuto has a 30 day, no exchange policy. I was fabricating a dual exhaust system and ordered two identical mufflers from RockAuto. It took me over 30 day's to TIG weld all the components and when I opened the boxes for the Walker mufflers one was entirely different from the other. The "shell" of the muffler was somehow welded on backwards and all the mounting brackets were in the wrong places. I called Walker and explained the situation and they confirmed that it was indeed a mistake. RockAuto would not except the muffler because even though it was wrong from Walker, it was purchased over 30 days ago.

  8. Please can we stop with the weather? Back in 2013 the weather forecast looked good on the weekend before Hershey. I have a framed weather map, from the USA Today newspaper hanging on my garage wall, showing clear sky for everything east of the Mississippi, EXCEPT for a small patch of green (rain) over the Hershey/Harrisburg area. It rained a record 9.5 inches on October 9, 10, 11, and 12th. I talked to friends 40 miles away, on their way to Hershey and they told me the sky was sunny and blue. They thought I was joking when I told them it was pouring rain. Hershey has its own weather system.

  9. The odd thing about New York State DMV, Year of Manufacture Plates, is that you need to send in a picture of "original, unrestored plates" to get approved. I have a friend with rusty, unreadable 1932 plates and they were approved. They are so unreadable, that he has never in 10 years gotten a bill from an  E-Z Pass reader, but a beautifully restored pair of plates can't be used. What most people do is have their plates restored after they are approved.

  10. I agree that you should get your car as soon as possible. The way you describe it, your restorer might be giving you a hint as to his health and just not able to come out with it. This isn't a new story however, how many times do we all read about a shop closing and the door is now locked and a court order needed to get your car and any parts that you can find. I have lived thru the same situation but in reverse.

  11. Another thing I forgot to mention that "newbies" will never see, are the cardboard signs that were posted on wooden stakes at the end of every grass aisle, telling you what aisle it was. On Saturday I would always help myself to a few and still have several of them hanging on my garage wall.

  12. I'm in the same boat as restorer32, as this will be my 55th HERSHEY. I can't really explain it, but around this time of year when the weather starts to change, I start thinking about HERSHEY. I remember most of the activity around the stadium. I remember the planes taking off and landing at the airport across the street. I remember the mud. I remember the Calliope playing the music and before cell phones, the "message  board" telling friends where to meet. I remember also before cell phones, purchasing two way radios to keep in touch with friends looking for a specific part. I remember the mud. I remember getting back to our hotel and unloading all the catalogs that were once put out by vendors, before everything was put "on line" and no more print catalogs. Of course, the mud. Every year a new rumor as to this might be the last HERSHEY, the complaining about the motorized carts in the flea market area and do we pay tax or not. It's just being there and seeing all the people that I only see once a year. I'm gonna keep going for as long as my surgically repaired knee's hold out and I'm still able to get around. Did I mention the mud? See you at HERSHEY!!! One thing I forgot to mention is the PA announcer and the way he asks that a "ve-hickle" must be moved.

  13. I did read that the toll's on the PA Turnpike were increased recently and quite a steep increase at that. I have EZ Pass and the last time I looked the toll for the Verrazzano Bridge from Long Island to Staten Island is $6.55 with EZ Pass and $10.17 without, so you get a savings of about $3.60, not a bad savings, almost a gallon of gas. I know that in my area EZ Pass has helped speed up the traffic dramatically. At one time we had to drive up to the toll gate, pay the toll and the gate went up, think how slow that was and multiply it by the thousands and thousands of cars that go over the bridge daily. Now the toll is paid at 65 MPH (traffic permitting) and the traffic keeps moving. Who ever invented EZ Pass should get some kind of award!
