  2. For Sale: 1961 Chevrolet Corvair Monza 900 Coupe, manual shift - $7,995 - Saint Augustine, FL

1961 Chevrolet Corvair Monza 900 for sale by owner - Saint Augustine, FL - craigslist
    Seller's Description:

1961 Chevrolet Corvair Monza 900 for sale.  The car is 62 years old and has some issues like paint scratches, chips, and the instrument cluster (speedometer) needs to be rebuilt but on the whole it was meticulously cared for by my late father. I would like it to go to someone who can also care for it and enjoy it. I listed the odometer as 4000 but the odometer states, "4" and craigslist wouldn't let me list it as 4. Feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.  Price is as listed or best offer.

  8. For Sale: 1969 AMC Ambassador SST 390 4-DOOR SEDAN, factory 390 AMX V8 - $6,590 - Lake Wylie, SC near Charlotte NC

1969 AMC Ambassador for sale by owner - Charlotte, NC - craigslist
    Seller's Description:

Please read entire listing as I have updated it to answer the questions I have received.
1969 American Motors Ambassador SST 390 4-DOOR SEDAN.  This car was sold new in 1969 with the rare Factory AMC X-code 390 cubic inch V8 with 10.2:1 compression ratio, forged steel crankshaft and connecting rods, and 4-barrel carburetor.  316 horsepower and 424 lb-ft of torque.
I have paperwork for the car's entire life. Car was treated to Ziebart when new to prevent rust. Rust bubbles under the vinyl roof. Otherwise, looks rust free to me. Paint looks ok (one repaint years ago) Interior looks original and clean. Two bench seats with 6 pairs of seat belts.
Front bench seat is a manual split seat and both seat backs can fully recline.
Chrome looks ok. Headliner looks ok. Glass looks ok. Carpet looks ok. Four original wire wheel covers look good. Original spare tire/wheel and jack are in the trunk. Windows are manual and work as they should. Dash looks good except for a few cracks in the center radio speaker grill. Floors and Trunk are solid. The Carter Carburetor appears original to me.
The prior owner drove the car to me, but this 1969 AMC needs to be fully serviced to be safe and reliable before driving very far. Car will need to be loaded onto your transport trailer. It is NOT ready to drive across country. (2 people asked.)

Please send name and phone number with questions. Due to Craigslist spammers, I will not respond to random emails without a name and phone number. I will call you to discuss. Ad will be deleted when sold. Price has been reduced.

CLEAN SC title in my name with no liens. Ready to sign over for a cash buyer. Located 5 minutes West of Charlotte, NC and are minutes from I-85 and I-77. Car is sold as-is. Car is stored INSIDE an enclosed trailer and will need to be inspected where it sits.  I drove it into the storage trailer last November but have not driven it since that time.  Please send name and phone number if interested. 11. Extensive rust damage is fatal to unibodies.  It's nearly impossible to repair and hideously expensive to try to do so.  I'll be surprised if you don't find this unfortunate Ambassador has extensive rust damage.  In the late 1960's, there was a junkyard here in town our small used car dealer/garage took unsaleable cars which held fourteen Nashs.   When they were scraping the yard, when they went to move those Nash Airflytes, the bodies pulled apart and collapse, that how badly rust had ruined the body structures.

One feature which should be saved if it has them, if this turns out to be a Brougham: two individual armchair rear seats and the side armrests and middle console, they are rare features only the Brougham has.

  13. For Sale: 1941 Buick Super Series 51 4dr sedan, 63K miles - $9,500 - Potomac, MD

1941 Buick Super for sale by owner - Potomac, MD - craigslist
    Seller's Description:

For sale: 1941 Buick Super Series 51 4dr sedan, 248 ci engine, dual carburetors, 63,000 miles, 6-volt system. I bought this car in 2006 and have put several thousand miles on it in that time. The previous owner had owned it since 1977, so only two owners in about 50 years! I have really enjoyed this car but have several other old Buicks and have run out of space (and time) to keep this one.
The car was semi-restored around 1980 and was repainted the correct colors (Lancaster Grey and Silver French Grey but not the correct metallic). The paint has held up fairly well but with the nicks and dings you can expect with 40-plus years. The left rear fender has some minor dents and touch up paint and the right fender has some paint cracks but otherwise it is fairly presentable. The chrome is really nice, not quite show quality but still pretty. I would guess it was re-chromed around the time it was repainted. Whoever had the work done did not go the extra step to paint in the black details around the hood ornament and the hood louvers (where it says Super). The chrome spears on the fenders do have some pitting so they are probably original chrome, but the rest of the chrome is nice.
I believe the interior is original, but the front seat has seen better days as it started ripping at the driver’s seat about ten years ago. There are various stains and pin holes as you might expect from 83-year-old fabric. When the car was painted back in 1980, the dash was painted body color rather than the proper woodgraining. The metal turned parts of the dash are presentable but not perfect.
The radio (regular Sonomatic) works fine and the lights and all the gauges work, although the ammeter seems to have started to be hit or miss so I think there is a loose electrical connection in the dash. I replaced the temperature gauge about ten years ago and while not the worst job I have ever done, taking the dash apart again is something I prefer to leave to the new owner. The clock does not work.
It has sat/been ignored more than it should have in the last few years so it could use some basic maintenance such as changing fluids and replace some seals/gaskets. The oil pan gasket in particular needs to be replaced as it has started to drip from there. I have a new gasket for it already, it is not a terrible job to replace it, but at this point I would rather leave it up to the new owner as I am knee deep into putting a 1934 Buick back together already. As with any old car, there are probably some other issues you will find along the way but that is all I can think of right now.
As far as rust, except for a small area, it is pretty minimal as this appears to have been a well taken care of car. There is one area in particular that is pretty bad but you would be unlikely to ever notice unless I told you. Not sure why, but the flat bottom of the left rear door is pretty rusty and has several holes. The only way to see it is to be lying down and looking up at it.
Overall, a nice reliable old car needing a little TLC that you can have fun with and take to cars and coffee and local shows. Pre-war Buicks of this era can easily keep up with modern traffic, are a pleasure to drive, relatively easy to work on and have lots of parts support. This is already a pretty wordy and overly long ad so I can provide a list of the major work I have done to the car and also a list of what I know to still be incorrect. I can also provide a lot more pictures and any details you might need.
As a side note, the previous long-time owner is a very famous actor. I don’t think that adds a lot of value to the car particularly since you are now buying it from me (who is very unfamous) but it does make for an interesting story.

  15. Available Again, Different Seller, Minor Price Reduction to $8,700: 4-23-2024.

1958 Rambler Super for sale by owner - Albuquerque, NM - craigslist

1958 Rambler Super, very good original condition. - $8,700 (Near San Pedro + Menual), Albuquerque, NM
    Seller's Description:

I am selling a very nice 1958 Rambler Super. It's powered by a 198 cubic inch, 6-cylinder engine and behind it is a 3 speed Borg Warner automatic transmission. The gear selection is handled by a push button selector. The body is in very good rust-free condition and finished in paint which looks to be original. It is very presentable with just the right amount of patina that you would expect on a 66-year-old vehicle. The interior has been professionally restored back to the factory original condition. All chrome and stainless trim is in good shape. No broken glass to deal with. In the trunk is what looks to be an original spare tire. This Rambler drives as good as it looks. It gets compliments every time I drive it. It's not as flashy as a '58 Ferrari but it has a koolness factor that's hard to match, especially at the $8,700 asking price. Actually, I'm open to reasonable offers.

I do not like this Lincoln - because of that self made spare tire hump. Also, there was no factory convertibles for this generation of Continentals, so it's a conversion, and I suspect, that soft top here is used from '71-'76 Eldorado. Yellow Mark III in that same ad for 7500$ seems like a better deal.

The folding top mechanisms and ancillary parts were the Ford factory components utilized on the full-sized 1969-'72 Fords and 1969-'70 Mercury convertibles.  Andy Hotton Associates began converting small numbers of Lincoln Continental two-door hardtops in 1972-'73, continued throughout the decade.  Other aftermarket convertible conversion coachbuilders sprang up in Florida and California as the auto industry abandoned the factory builds after 1976.  It was something of a cottage industry to meet the remaining demand, always at a healthy price premium on top of the initial cost of the car.  The 1971-'76 Cadillac Eldorado plus the other full-sized GM convertibles on the B-Body platform all shared the inward-folding 'scissor' mechanism which allowed a full-width rear seat.

Steve,  did you say the 63 has the most desirable styling?   I can't think of a more expensive 60s car to work on.

    A.J.:

It's a matter of taste, though the consensus seems to weigh toward the 1963 with its elegant grille textures and squared-off trunk lid.  The 1963 models finally got the 4-barrel carburetor again after that absurd foray into 'economy' 1960-'62 430's beset with 2-barrel carburetors.  The '61 'potted headlights' front grille is more visually interesting but a bit heavy-looking for such a clean design.

Yes, these are among the most expensive, complicated 1960's cars to work on and restore.  Worst, in my view, Ford skimped on many aspects of these cars for their initially high prices: poor rust protection and body drainage, an electrical system no better than any of their other products, interior materials that did not wear or age well, needlessly complicated features such as the hydraulic-powered windshield wiper system.  The unibody was very solid but excessively heavy and even minor collision damage condemned many of these early to the junkyard because the cost to repair that all-welded front clip.

I followed these as new and used cars in the 1960's-1970's, loved them from the first 1961's I saw pre-introduction in November 1960.  The survival rate for the convertibles is high for such a low production car.  They were beginning to be collected in the early 1970's even as worn out, rusty, rundown used cars.  The causes for their popularity now are as cultural nostalgia touchstones of the JFK "Camelot" era.

I like 3 windows.   As a graduate of Shrewsbury HS class of 82 I wonder if I know the seller?

    A.J.:

You might, make contact to find out.

These little Studebaker Champion business coupes have the most extreme proportions since the firewall-to-front-axle plane is so short, something like only 13 inches.  They look even more extreme than the Mopar business coupes.

What's a Matador? Realistically, are these collectibles now and is there any real interest in the Matadors & Ambassadors from about 1971 to 1978? "

"Are these rather mundane looking full-size cars really collectible...?"

"What's the current market for a 4-door Matador? Or an Ambassador?"

Collectability is in the eye of the beholder. Certainly, AMC enthusiasts are the only folks who can legitimately answer these questions.  Personally, I'd opine the interest and demand for 1970's Matadors and Ambassadors is scant.  Just the same, its old enough to be of interest to someone, what little that can be done to bring it to the attention of those few AMC enthusiasts is worthwhile.  As a used car dealer, I knew like to say, "There is a butt for every seat."
