  1. There is one place in the cylinder head into which the expansion tube goes in.  It is threaded inside  so you can tighten the tube in. If you can insert an  electric heat sensor  in that recess successfully you will be able to use a dash gauge from the 40's or later  and switch the insides. Note; One terminal will be wired to the battery and the other to the sender. Also some modern electrical gauges  are controlled by a voltage regulator which runs about 8 volts. If the system is a 6 volts you may be lucky to succeed.  Or you may use a 6 volts dash gauge.  You may be able to fabricate an outlet on the thermostat housing for the sender unit.

    THIS IS NOT A JOB FOR THE TIMID. 

  2. That rubber doughnut goes inside the door. You will have to remove the panel and install from inside. Those 3 holes are for adjusting the  the distance the door will open, How wide opening required.

  3. I once saw a Buick driver had the inside of the tank fiber glassed. The car was stalling frequently all over the place without notice. The problem was a piece of fiberglass was floating around  inside. He replaced the tank with a new one.

    What you may try is to steam the tank out and paste the outside with solder. Another repair is to have the tank galvanized Dipped. There are places that galvanizes all kind of steel. Another way is to cut it open at the seam, galvanize it and then solder or braze it back together.

  4. Yes, the engine is under the bonnet and we store things in the boot. Gasoline is petrol and the thing around the wheel is a tyre. The topless car is a roadster and sometimes refered to as a ragtop. Take your pick. Not against the law.

  5. Hi Gary 56.. Thanks for the picture , mate . A picture is worth a thousand words. I see spitting images  of my 28  D B senior that I am currently restoring. Please do not discard the smallest sample of wood or metal parts. This is going to be a costly project. I am about 14 grand and still counting. Be prepared.  It is very nice of members offering books etc, but at this stage no need for books. . If youl ike I can guide you. Have you removed the roof as yet ? You will have to start from there.   6. Good morning  richard m. looking at the picture of the clutch assembly the fingers are out out of wack with each other. If  I read you correctly you changed the fingers . And now you want to adjust them back to height. 

    I do not like to tell people what to do. I will suggest  only. Remove the flywheel and place on the bench face up, put the disc on and then the pressure plate. Bolt the pressure on the flywheel down pat.  Look at the fingers , you will see the difference in heights. The the fingers can be adjusted slowly one at a time until they are level. YOU ARE NOT FINISHED YET. Adjusting the disc with the pressure plate is another step.

  7. marcapra, good morning. Looking at the picture  of the clutch I say it is in bad shape. However you have all the answers you need from hwellens. Unless you have those tools handy you may be better off to send it to a shop that repairs and relines clutch.  It definately needs some fingers. The only thing I can add is inspect ring gear and machine hot spots on flywheel.

  8. I saw a fellow in Oshawa , Ontario Canada use the profile of the sheet metal to cut the shape of the wood for the rails. I did the same for the top side rails for my 1928 Dodge Senior.. Use spruce to make patterns first to make sure you have it down pat. Splice, trim glue and whatever necessary to achieve that. 

    An important thing to remember is that wood shrink over time and may not be accurate pattern especially oak. Just a guide at best. A good wood rasp file is necessary.

  9. Angelfish,  to find out the output  of the generator it is necessary to install it on something ,a car  or some object to spin it fast. Hook up a ground wire from the body to the ground post of the battery.  From the "BAT" terminal  on the generator hook up a wire to the other battery post. Spin the hell hell of the generator. The Voltmeter should read about 8 volts  or more. During the process  while spinning,  ground the field wire to the battery hot side.The  amps will shoot up. DO NOT HOLD FOR MORE THAN A FEW SECONDS . On installations on the car the output will depend on the battery requirement but will be regulated by the voltage regulator. . As voltage goes up Amps comes down when hooked up to battery. When a battery is fully charged the ampmeter will  read zero but the voltage will read the output rated on the label, or close. A HALF  charge  BATTERY FOR THIS TEST WORKS BEST.

    If the amps is constantly high while the volts is at max  then there is a problem somewhere causing the field coil to ground. Most likely the problem could be in the current regulator  or internal field ground. If not taken care of the generator will burn out.

    I think what you are looking for is a high amp output  and not volt output . That may be achieved by properly adjusting  the volt/ amp regulator at certain engine speeds.

    If you think you want higher output at lower R P M then it is necessary to replace the field coil.

  10. I am refer to the days before fuel injection was invented  for cars.  During my working days as a mechanic for a large Transport company. Canadian Pacific Transport. Coast to Coast. Talk about frozen air tanks ,brake chambers and wheels in minus 35 degrees .   

  11. Jack, you are right,  It is hard on both gas and diesel engines. It should  never be used on gasoline engines period. John-s-in Pen the answer is yes. I used it but not in cars. This stuff blows  the carb gaskets to hell out. The instruction on the can does not recommend it. But I used it to start Diesel engines. There is a correct  way and incorrect way. Give 2 quick small shots into the intake tube and wait for at least 5 minutes allowing it to atomize and flow by gravity into the manifold before cranking. It is easy on the conrod bearings. I have seen my fellow mechanics pumping about ten squirts and sometimes keeps squirting while another mechanic leans on the starter button. The engine  start with  loud banging, nok nok nok  for almost a minute. I shudder to think what happened to the bearings within that fateful minute.  

  12. I have all his emails and communications records. He got the money order and said he was going to ship on Tuesday last. Then he started sending emails asking for my shipping address . 3 times but everytime I reply the emails comes back undelivered. There is the traffic light sign that comes up with the red light on in the email. After I published my complaint on this forum I got an email from him saying he got my  address. I have his PO box address and his home address as well.  His name and address is written on the money order. 

  13. Have you seen  someone using Eazi Start, spraying into a carburetor  to start a car ? . I have seen quit a few and the scene was not that pleasant to look at. In one case , the parking lot was full of snow when this driver used this liquid in his Cheroki  with air cleaner off.  I never saw a man moved that fast throwing snow on the Carb.  FIRE.

  14. Knee Action shocks, otherwise known  as Armstrong dampener were used in some British sports cars.  About 25 years ago Moss used to sell some sort of kits for them. Otherwise there is not much inside to fix. There are valves , loaded with springs, sometimes  the springs weakens or collapses . The hardness or the softness  of the ride is adjustable by manipulating those valves.  Also flushing the old  oil, cleaning , replenishing with hydraulic shock oil will help. Those on north american cars are usually larger physically
