  1. Today I got it running. I had to pour a little gas down the carb, it fire up but only a short time which told me it was fuel related. After unhooking the gas line to see if it was pumping, I noticed very little gas but then it started pumping pretty good and it was fine after that. Maybe air in the line or some debris. At this point not sure. Thanks for the help everyone, Glenn
  2. I know theres no filter between the pump and carb, and the fuel tank has been professionally cleaned. I will check fuel delivery tomorrow, If that good, possibly coil or air mixture?
  3. Where is the fuel filter located and does a hot coil means trouble?
  4. i have rebuilt the fuel pump if that matters
  5. I have a 1949 dodge coronet. I finally got it started and let it idle for about 20 minutes. I then test drove it around the parking lot. Now it doesn't start very easy and when I do get it started it's just for a few seconds, also I have to wait about 10 minutes before I try again. Any help would be great.
  6. Thanks for the tip, I wasn't sure I put it back in the right way. Glenn
  7. I recently rebuild a fuel pump off a 49 dodge. Do you have to prime it to get it to work. And if you do, how do you do it.
  8. Can you purchase a new gas tank?, I have a 49 coronet. Got the tank out, but inside is total rust. It doesn"t appear to have holes. The radiator shop says 250 to cut open, sandblast, and seal. The tank has a drain plug which is nice. I'am sure a new (if they make them) tank probably wouldn't have the drain plug. Has anyone ever bought a new replacement tank for your older vehicle? and were you happy with it.
  9. Can you buy the product (POR-15) at the local auto store or boat marine?
  10. After you get the gas out, should you rinse with water or just pour the muratic acid in. I guess my concern is will the acid react with the gas.
  11. Does the por-15 seal the tank from rusting
  12. WHAT'S THE BEST WAY TO GET TO THE GAS OUT. AND I HEARD TO USE POR-15 IN THE TANK, HAS ANYONE TRIED THIS. THE CAR HAS BEEN SITTING FOR 20 YEARS AND THE GAS SMELLS LIKE SHELLAC. IF YOU TALKED ABOUT THIS BEFORE, SORRY I'AM NEW.
  13. Thanks everyone for your knowledge. Hopefully i can get it running before mom turns 80, this was her dad's car. I have tll may 4th.
  14. Thank you for your advice. I can still get a mechanical pump for $125. An electric pump may not work on my 6 volt system, don't know which way to go yet. More modern devices aren't always the best route.
  15. My original gas pump doesn't pump anymore on my 49 coronet. Can you replace it with an electric universal gas pump and is it easy to do?
  16. Anyone know of a place to get original brake parts. I'am looking for the outside pushrod boot, located on the master cylinder, the one they send me is held down with screws. The one I'am looking for stretches around the housing, also the O-ring/gasket for the filler cap. Thanks, Glenn
  17. I'll look that up online. Thanks for the help.

  21. Thanks, that's a go starting point
  22. Anyone know the specs. for a 49 dodge coronet. It's the nut that holds on the brake drum. My book doesn't talk about it. Your knowledge would be helpful, Thanks Glenn
  23. Can someone tell me how you bench bleed a master brake cylinder?
  24. Does anyone have knowledge on what torque specs. would be for a 49 coronet? My book does not say anything about it. Your help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Glenn This is the nut that holds on the brake drum-anyone?
