Steve, thanks for proving a basic vehicle and a pickup at that can compete with the likes of the other full classics and other more flashy cars.  It was impeccably restored and a beauty. Also, thanks for being such a caring member and I will be thinking over your idea.  All the best, enjoy your summer while it lasts as I know the winters up there!!

Thank You Steve and Thank You AACA for being a club out there that appreciates what we go thru to restore these vehicles to as Original or better than New from the factory.  AACA Judging has also helped us change items on our Truck that were not as correct after we attended our first shows in 2016-2019 to help make our Truck what it is today.  Thanks Again....We will enjoy the Summer even after a mild winter :)

  2. Steve P.

Spring, Summer, Fall I run an automatic climate control dehumidifier in my Log Garage which has a cement floor, in the winter I turn off the the Dehumidifier and I leave the Propane Upper Corner heater at a constant low of 45 degrees when I'm not in the garage, my truck is on stands (unless I get it ready for a show) with the tires just off the floor, I run and warm up the engine in the truck and run it thru the gears and hit the brakes at least every 3 weeks, I also use NON Ethanal Fuel, plus I use a battery tender....Never have I Had a problem.

I learned this after I built my garage about 10 years ago, without the dehumidifier there was too much humidity and the heat in the garage was in- consistant

Here is a pic of the temps the dehumidifier keeps my garage in the warmer months, the winter months there is less humidity once the heat is on, the main thing to keep out is the Humidity, plus the Main winter Heater and the dehumidifiers Fan keeps the air circulating when running.

  3. I have on my list this year 2023 of possibly going to my 1st Hershey Show with my 56 chevy truck and I would like to ask, Is the trailer parking near the Show field?  Also can I stay in my trailer with the truck in the designated Car show trailer parking area overnight? Thanks STEVE M

Thanks; I guess you can tell the one picture was taken in the bright sunlight (mid morning), and the whitewall picture was taken around 5:30 p.m. I have always heard that green is the most difficult color to photograph. Thanks again.

I also have trouble too Glen taking pics outside of my Green 56 Chevy truck, especially in the Sun, when it's cloudy out the color is much darker....STEVE M

  5. 2 worlds   (SHOW QUALITY ) .......(DRIVER QUALITY) and what is in between....

Kind of like buying a New Vehicle you can keep it like new from the dealer      or drive it and watch the New Vehicle thing go away...

Not all cars Restored can make it to Repeat Senior Grand National Status with AACA

But I guess if people didn't drive them from NEW there wouldn"t be cars to restore...

(But once there restored),  at this point I'm going to try and Keep my restored 56 Chevy Truck as it was when I  finished it 10 years ago and keep trailering it to AACA- VCCA shows, I put too much Time AND Work into it to start driving it at this point..

Some day in the Near Future Maybe it will see the road, then I will just drive my truck during the summer month's here in Northern Michigan

It's just hard for me to let all the Show Quality work in my truck Go towards Driver Quality...I had that, but I made the truck New again...(LOTS AND LOTS OF WORK <TIME AND MONEY & NOS PARTS)

Kinda like once you put that Big Model together and put it  on the shelf you tend to not let the Grand Kids play with it and break it... .....

I could have left my truck as a Driver when I got it in 2001, but I chose to restore it to NEW as from the factory...Hard to let that GO...SO Enjoy your vehicle the way you want to enjoy it I Guess.....STEVE M

Adam has made some progress - the front doors are aligned and the old dash is out without being butchered, seen in the background. Aligning the doors now helps avoid paint chipping during reassembly and regular use.

He’s also made progress on the few dents in the roof and the top of the wheel wells which are exposed in the interior of the truck, and very visible. He would have had the two rear doors done, except I forgot to bring those hinges which are  safely stored in my basement. He’ll have these and a couple other parts tomorrow morning. He has a YouTube channel, Antique Automobile Service, so check out his workmanship and projects.

Chet, the Gateway Buick Club president loaned me his engine lifting bar and chains this afternoon to get the 235 six off the engine stand. His knowledge is backed by more years of experience than he’d probably admit. The engine will be mated to the Hydramatic tomorrow when I get back from Adam’s shop. I’m beginning to pull parts together that we’ll need in the coming weeks, especially interior parts that will need to be painted the same beige color as the rest of the interior.

I chose 1956 color Forest Green in single stage urethane for the exterior color (solid, not metallic).

I have also seen Steve's beautiful truck and agree with his observations. I spoke with Steve during his restoration about a few matters - especially relating to tires, and respect the path he chose. Congratulations to Steve on not only the recognition, but having done it right and done it exceptionally well !

Thank You Marty.....Between the 10 years of my restoration to 5 years of climbing the AACA Ladder it has all been very Worth While, looking forward to going as far as possible with AACA & VCCA in the future....:)

Why on earth would anyone see a factory defective part or any defective part (other then a cosmetic defect) on any car?

IF IT IS DEFECTIVE IT MEANS IT DOES NOT WORK!!!!

Mr P does open the door to another side of judging. Some vehicles are text book vehicles to restore, Corvettes come to mind, as well as Model A's, Camaros, Mustangs, Small T-Birds, and 5-7 Chevy's are just a few I can think of, where the restorer has all of the of the documented information they need to restore the car properly to be correct. Those classes are very competitive, and almost every car is done extremely well, and every year there is few "fresh out of the box" restorations done to the same caliber.  From my observations some of the not so old cars from the 80's don't appear to be held to the same criteria.

I agree with Steve's observations and sentiments 100% about the vehicles on the AACA Show Field. I had the pleasure of seeing Steve's truck in person at the Grand National at Auburn and at a VCCA Meet in Morgantown PA. it is a head turner.

    Thank You John.....:)

  9. I hope my opinion will help you answer your original post A Griffin...

I started attending my first AACA show in 2016 with my 56 Chevy truck not knowing other than what the judging manual says about what I can expect the judges to look for, I thought I covered most of my restoration to as how the truck came from the factory, I went in with the hope of my truck being restored by me being able to what I call ( The AACA POINTS Ladder) to climb, the first step I was able to step on the (1st Junior), I had some issues to change but if I wanted to climb the next step to the (SENIOR AWARD), I had to change some issues that the judges found to be incorrect, so I changed them and got to the next step (Senior award), there was even a few more issues judges found I had to correct so I could get to the next step the (Grand National Award), there was no more changes that AACA Judging found but I still changed a few  NOS items that made myself happier, the next step was the ( Senior Grand National) I made that step :), my next step this year is to get a ( Repeat Senior Grand National) Hopefully the Virus won't get in the way....I'm very grateful that our truck has climbed the AACA ladder so far, as West quoted ( The Vehicle is the trophy) I believe in that 100%

The Awards that are given by AACA are there way I believe to show and document thru Judging to get you closer to that ORIGINAL FROM THE FACTORY RESTORATION, I didn't expect ANYTHING going into my first show with AACA but POINTS & AWARDS that I have been given by AACA & VCCA are proudly displayed in my ( Garage Museum) that shows the respect of the Judges for all my effort into our restoration....

To add to that RESPECT our 56 chevy truck was displayed in each clubs Magazine the past few years, another step on the Ladder....

From what I've seen at  local shows,  it wouldn't even come close to the caliber at an AACA or VCCA show event....plus I'm still trying to climb the AACA, VCCA clubs ladder that helps us PRESERVE our restoration for others to see at there future events, ( In my lifetime I will not do another restoration), It is a Great feeling when other members that are showing there Beautiful vehicles at the AACA or VCCA comment on our 56 Chevy truck, because they understand what it takes to do a restoration on there own, (I do the same same with other members vehicles),  plus we have met some very Nice people in the years we've shown with AACA & VCCA,

Some day down the road I will drive our truck,  I will take my truck to our local event just to show (NO TROHPY)

No Regrets at ALL with AACA & VCCA even if we wouldn't of made it up the Points ladder.....Hope this help answer your question A Griffin

I believe this bulb was sold as an aftermarket item Steve, so it could be used with any car from the era.  Do you just have the one? It would be interesting to compare it against a regular bulb on the same car.

I have just the 1 bulb

  11. I'm hoping someone can help me identify an Old Auto Bulb that is in my collection of auto bulbs, it is in a Mazda edison bulb sleeve but is actually a bit longer than the sleeve, so I'm not sure if it's a mazda bulb...

The markings on the bulb are Albers Patent  made in usa  also has 82-32 cp on the brass end...this is an oddball bulb that I would like to find out what it fits, I believe it's 6 volt...any help would be appreciated...THANKS STEVE M
