Hi, I may have a similar issue in my 29 DeSoto. The carb is an after market Zenith Universal and was running fine and even driving her. Now when I try to start her it leaks gas out of the air filter but will not start. I adjusted the float, no change.
It would appear that if the choke is not closed it doesnt leak gas. It almost seems that there is too much vaccuum (sic).
