Hi guys,
Thank you for the education. On the Maxwell, the quadrant is on the right side of the steering column. So, lever up is retard and down (clockwise) is advance.

On the Maxwell, the lever would be at 12 o’clock retarded and 4 o’clock advanced.
According to the manual, the timing is set when number one piston has travel over dead center 3/64” as observed through the spark plug hole. This is supposed to be 10 degrees past center — the full retard setting. Without any timing marks, how would one determine 6 to 8 degrees advanced?

I have had to rework the ignition system on my 1924 Maxwell. Is the spark retarded when the control is all the way up (to the left) on the quadrant? This would pull the distributor all the way in toward the engine block. Thank you.

Also, I did find that on the crankshaft the front and rear bearing diameter is 1,7/8” . The center is 2,1/4”. The connecting rod bearing diameter is 1,7/8”.

FYI. The only thing the owners manual says about rod bearing clearance is that it should not be less than .002.

I am planning to remove and clean the oil pan on my 1924 Maxwell. While off, I am thinking it would be a good idea to check rod and main bearing clearances.
I would appreciate help with determining acceptable tolerance ranges for rod and main bearings. Also, what would be acceptable torque ranges for both on reassembly?
Thank you.

Were you able to have one made? I need one for my 1924-1925 Maxwell.

That's my photo and my parts. I had forgotten there was a distributor in there. Sorry. If you need it, I still have it available.

Peter, I just sent you a pm with my contact information. Thank you so much for your reply. Paul

The diecast right angle drive. With that, I am hoping that I can either find the correct distributor body or at least adapt one that will give good service.

The part number of the distributor assembly in the Chrysler parts book is: 37856 or 41120. However, that may not be very helpful. The distributor is a Remy, but I don’t have the specific number. I’ve attached a drawing from the Series 58 owners manual and a photo showing one in with other parts. This is for a four cylinder engine. I really appreciate your help. Hopefully, we can send photos and information back and forth until we locate something.

Would like to purchase a 1925-1926 Chrysler Four distributor assembly—any condition.

Thank you. That should expand my search window. I’ve exhausted every known lead to date. Still hope something will emerge from the forum.

Would a distributor from a Chrysler model 58 engine fit and work on a Maxwell 25-C engine?

Here's a drawing of the late Maxwell distributor with the part circled that I really need. If I could find one in any condition, it would help me with reconstruction. Can anyone help? Thanks. Paul

Vintage Reproductions would consider reproducing the pot metal drive housing for a 1922-1925 Maxwell distributor. Would there be enough interest among late model owners to have at least 5 produced? If so, we would need to provide photos of the distributor housing giving as much detail as possible. They would need detailed measurements as well. Anyone interested?

In the May photos, I see the ‘24 engine had an original distributor housing. If it’s in your possession, would you be willing to sell that part? I am in desperate need.

See the update I posted in the Maxwell section. Thank you. It looks like I will have one made.

I am looking for parts and service manuals for a 1924-1925 Maxwell 25-C. Any help locating a hard copy, photocopy, or electronic copy would be greatly appreciated.

I have an owners manual for my 1924 Maxwell. Did a parts and service manual exist for these late models? If so, would anyone be willing to provide a photocopy? Thank you.

The pot-metal housing on my Remy distributor is broke and missing. I am looking for a complete replacement unit.

Replacing the upholstery in my 1932 Chrysler CP8 sedan. Need help finding a source for headliner, seat, and door panel cloth. Doesn’t have to be a perfect match, but I am wanting to get close to the original. It’s been a difficult search thus far. Thank you for any assistance.
