  1. Likewise, our website was inaccessible on the morning of 05/07/14. As instructed, back in March of 2014, I worked with Higher Information Group (HIG) to move our website from Peter Gariepy's server to the AACA server. Upon "completion", all worked well. So what happened? I also was told yesterday by HIG that I hadn't made the move yet! Upon going through the process again with them, the website was up and running this morning... but with a version from months ago! Hopefully someone at AACA can get the full, real story of what happened, and post it for us here.

Same here with Oneida Lake Region, olraaca.org. Put in GoDaddy transfer on April 7th, but learned yesterday that HIG did not accept transfer, so it expired in 10 days on 4/18. I didn't realize that they didn't accept and thought it was transferred, but I should have double checked. Web site stopped working a few days ago. After noticing I still owned domain last week, sent an email to HIG asking status. No reply, then site went down 5/7. Initiated transfer of domain ownership again this week, and HIG accepted. However, the website transfer restored the site to the state it was a few months ago, so lost all the recent changes in April, along with all email since Feb 2014. Of course all the modifications lost were the ones to comply with the recent evaluation criteria letter sent 4/1 :(

The site, with old restore, has been up and down the last 24-48 hours, so waiting to make any changes for now. Surprised that the content from last week is no longer available. We have our annual show on 6/1 , so hopefully will be stable in next week.

Posting as a heads up to wait before making any major changes.

  2. In Syracuse NY area. For those of you who are heading back east from the Buffalo AACA National Spring meet that weekend, why not plan a stop by on the way back? :) New location this year.

Only a short distance off of the Thruway.

  3. Have you ever been to the yard? Take a look at the reaction on the forwardlook.net site to judge whether "no one wanted them". There was no "preaching" on my part. I was only trying to get rare parts in the hands of those who appreciated them. Judging from the 18,000 hits that the post received on our Facebook page, and the hoards who came out to buy parts and complete cars in the two weeks before they were crushed, it seems you are in a very small minority. Obviously my poll did it's job. It certainly got your attention. It's all gone now, so you can relax and get off your soapbox.

Ignore the poster, he's in the minority. Obviously he didn't look at the viral results on social media. I think most people realize that it was the guys property and had the legal right...not the point:rolleyes:

You weren't preaching and obviously this scrapyard guys legacy will go down as someone who destroyed history. Thanks again for all of your efforts!!

  4. Would love to see a case where an organization was successfully sued for a moderator not deleting posts?? :) Not a lawyer here, but computer guy ;) Maybe the AACA lawyers should check with computer crime lawyers.

Oh, and have had AAA Platinum for years. Never needed a classic car tow, but 3 times with daily drivers and twice with Class A RV.

Peter, thanks for giving your understanding of the legality of negative comments.

    Your explanation was very thorough.

Wherever critiques are given, I still feel that they are necessary; but for ethical

purposes they should be done with courtesy and tact.

What good would Ebay ratings be, for instance, if only the positive ratings were published ?!

Many, many crooks could operate unhindered, and more hobbyists would be hurt.

Even Jesus "loved righteousness, and hated iniquity."

I hope AACA's lawyers were being conservative, and that such a thought of "see no evil"

may be changed some day with future opinions or future legal rulings.

  5. I attended judges breakfast for first time Sat at meet. I walked in the front door of Giant Center instead of back. The entire center was deserted, both floors. Too bad it can't be opened up for vendors during the show, especially for those with literature, expensive small NOS parts, etc.. Maybe even move the judges breakfast to another area, say the fan seats with a "bag" breakfast, and use the entire Arena floor for vendors.

I attend the largest antique show in the Northeast, Madison-Bouckville. http://www.madison-bouckville.com/index.html with over 2000 vendors.

They put up huge tents for vendors that would withstand storms such as Thurs/Fri. May be tough to do on the pavement, but possibly on grass areas.

Before getting hammered with all the "they do a lot of work putting on show, huge undertaking, too much to change, etc.." comments, I applaud the Hershey staff, just some thoughts/constructive comments from a newbie ;)

  6. Unfortunately work schedules don't necessarily allow that.

This brings up another, if off-topic question: Even when I have attended Hershey on Thursday, by 2:00-3:00 in the afternoon many of the vendors are closing up for the day. It's frustrating since I only have one day to attend. Has the hobby aged that much that there's a rush to hit the early bird special for dinner?

I see the same thing at Carlisle. I'm a vendor at Fall Carlisle and again many vendors start closing shop by 3:00 in the afternoon. Worse is the exodus on Saturday (Carlisle is supposed to be open through Sunday). I was surprised this year to see major commercial vendors closed and out the gate shortly after noon on Saturday. Kinda hard to spend money when they aren't there. I guess the economy must be getting better after all...

Joe, since you can't force vendors to stay, maybe some sort of incentive program would work. If you are there Saturday afternoon, you'll get first priority on spots for the vendor area the next year, or discount on the spaces. i.e., if you are way in the back and stay until Sat 4pm, next year you can move to the area by the Giant center first, right up front and take the place of the early departing vendors :) Not sure of the logistics as I'm new to Hershey (2 times), but an incentive program would be great!

  7. I wasn't ther on Saturday becausei drive my mustang to the show and it isn't sitting in muddly field in the rain the rest of the week

Ted, I hear ya :) I never wanted to drive 5 hours to Hershey and chance it after my restoration, so agree. I finally bit the bullet 2 years ago and bought an enclosed trailer.

  8. I have to echo what Steve said about Thursday. We took a large load of ANTIQUE CAR and TRUCK PARTS and expected a great week. Wednesday was better than usual, and I think some buyers arrived a day early to beat the rain drops. Thursday was a wild day, as we had buyers every time the rain started. Each time the rain stopped, so did the buying. By the end of the day, we had sold more parts than almost any day I can remember. On Friday morning, we set out the stuff that rain wouldn't hurt and hoped for the best. Of course, by early afternoon even the most hearty of souls had found a dry spot and activity ceased. We thought a dry Saturday might spark a non-typical Saturday buying spree; but of course the Friday afternoon exodus of sellers had reduced the swap meet field to about 10%. When I read about the "decline" of the Hershey swap meet experience- I don't know who should shoulder the "blame". The "cure" is for more sellers to stick it out under less than perfect conditions and more buyers to take advantage of those Saturday morning deals. We remain in awe of the effort the Hershey Region makes each year under trying conditions; and we'll keep plugging away until the last sore-footed soul leaves for home. Bring on 2014.
My son and I didn't arrive until Friday around noon, but we spent 5+ hours in mostly downpours Fri afternoon, searching for parts. We have an RV, and were prepared with the rain gear and umbrellas, and didn't get soaked. Tip for Hershey, buy a good rain suit and you'll be fine if it's ever wet ;) It was sad to see many of the vendors packing up, especially after driving 5 hours. However, there were many that were prepared with tents and such and stayed open. My son and I thanked the ones we visited. Only my second time at Hershey, but plenty of times in Carlisle. On Friday, it was our best day of buying parts ever! We got some great stuff, including a Cadillac fender, vent window, lights, etc.., mainly from a vendor called Annapolis?? We lugged it all back on a cart to our RV at around 6pm. It was a great day! We had a list of parts we needed and got 90% of them, spending around $1000 Fri. There was a re-chroming tent still open and planning on sending all of my bumpers/end for my next project to them. Bought some general supplies/tools from other vendors as a show of support. We even scored some parts Saturday evening, around 3:30-4PM from a vendor call Bill Faull??, Glad that he stuck it out as I found some dash parts and brake light, and planning on getting more from him as they just got another parts car back at their shop. A huge thanks to the Fri/Sat vendors staying...thank you!!!

Oh, and the show field was awesome on Sat! Can't believe so many people didn't stick around...our Sr car only had a few specks of mud on the tires :) Surprisingly, I also got a sunburn Sat walking around the show field!

  9. You must attend a judging school in each calendar year to remain active. Reading was in 2012 not 2013. If you attending Gettysburg this year you are ok. /QUOTE]

Thanks for all the info! Wasn't sure on prior to breakfast as the show field opens the same exact time as the judges breakfast starts, 7am.... and I didn't see any approximate end time on the breakfast, so thank you.

Yes, I meant I was at Spring 2013 Gettysburg Region judging school in Carlisle. Was also at Reading the year before...NY'er here just mixing up all the PA towns ;)

  10. Thank you Susan and Steve. I should be able to make judging school, but if I attended it in Spring '13 in Reading, not required to attend again, correct? I believe once per year is what Hulon said in Reading.

Do judges w/ cars just get their cars after the judges breakfast and drive them onto field? One last one :)..can my AACA Jr son go to the judges breakfast with me? I can't register him for it, and no need to eat ;)...but just checking.

  11. Attended judging school for first time at Reading Spring meet 2013. Would like to sign up for apprentice judging at Hershey. How do you sign up? This will only be my second time at Hershey with a car, so a newbie here. I will have a car there for First Preservation, so OK to apprentice judge at same time? Thanks!

  12. Ahh, OK...was paying attention to mostly your posts in the thread and skimmed over some of the others. As someone who has been learning how to do bodywork over the last few years (latest project a 66 Caddy vert), I thought your work was amazing :) Either way on the final pics, glad to hear the project is completed! Fantastic. Thanks for the update.

  13. I find a floor jack fairly easy to use and handy. I always take my NAPA 3.5 ton shop floor jack (and jack stands) along in the trailer and it will lift the 4,800 pound 24’ trailer with a 4,000 pound car inside with no issues. I have also used a floor jack to get a car onto the trailer that had a broken suspension and the wheel had to be removed.

I have a trailer aid too and also AAA. Last flat tire, the angle of my trailer on side of road and way the trailer was tilted made it tough though with the trailer aid last trip to Hershey, so called AAA. Have Platinum AAA, but would have been faster to change myself. The Trailer aid worked great on my driveway when trailer was flat, so planning on taking my large jack next trip. How do you rig down inside the trailer? Tips?

  14. Dave congrats on the car! I'll preface my statement with..it's your car and do what makes you happy :)

For HPOF, the car should be original, so the replating should be a deduction. Too late now, but best to buy another bumper next time and keep the original one just in case. If BIAS ply tires were original to car, should also be a deduction. The big question however is the "light under the hood resto" and without seeing tough to tell and you may get different answers here due to that. If you just touched up the spots that got the battery acid, and replaced some maintenance parts maybe that got damaged, wires, cap, etc..may be OK. However, not an expert here, you may be automatically disqualified if the engine and engine compartment was all repainted. Have only been to one national meet so not 100% sure, but saw an old 40's Ford get disqualified locally at a meet for resto in engine bay. For prep of car, a good cleaning should be it. Remove any aftermarket items or anything not original to car...(ie aftermarket mats, cup holders, custom license plate frames, etc..)

Again, I know too late, but in a case like yours, if HPOF is desired, just wash battery acid off best as can and leave as is...spots and all!! :) As I heard one judge mention, your car is a reference to all who are restoring. May seem minor, but taking a spray can to clean up some bolts and such can be an issue.

You find out at the awards ceremony Sat night, or afterwards when results posted here if not attending Sat night. Good luck..and most importantly...have fun!!

  15. I'm trying to get the 1/4 window manual turn knob off the door panel, cant find how in shop manual, can anybody help me, car is older than me and I inherited it from my grandfather

Just to add to the good info already posted, you need the body manual too, not just the shop manual. These are available in as pdfs on ebay (DVD) too. Have a 66 here, but same as 65. Section "8-30" in the 66 body manual has the detailed info.
