  1. Ok, nice story. But I like to have a no noise low Gear. Interesting Link. Thanks.
  2. Thanks for your reaction Janousek, I think, I must take out the transmission again. There was one Gear with a litle bit of Pitting. I thougt it can`t make such a lot of noise. Maybe I can buy a new countershaft. Anyone an idea where? Thanks, Falco
  3. Last Month, I buy a `47 Super 56C. Now the Car is here, the manual Transmission is very noisy in low Gear. Not in reverse, second and third Gear. So, I take out the Transmission. It seems to be used without Oil. Some Gears are serious worn. Lucky me, I`ve an good `42 Transmission in stock, but it has a short Tail end and the `47 a long Tail end. So, I swith the tail ends and replace the front and rear Bearings and U joint. Also I give the Clutch plate a new Surface. Pressure Plate and throw out Bearing are good. Now after mounting the whole stuf, the low Gear is noisy again, a little les but to noisy to be good. The linkage Rods move free from the Engine. Has anyone an idea what can make the noise in only first Gear? Thanks, Falco
  4. Yes Paul, it wasn`t possible to correct the carburetors. They are badly worn. So I bought 2 new edelbrock 94 with the same 3 stud mounts. One with a choke, one less. Then I could run the 2 carbs. simultaneously , it gives a little more power. I take the flies out off the dampervalve and close the holes of the axle. For secure I ordered the smallest Main jets (0,049)(you can Always make them bigger) and 4.5 powervalves. I adjust the carbs with only feeling and check the spark plugs. But measure is Knowledge, so I go to the speed centre and put the car on the rolling drum. And yes it hurts to hear such an old car make 4000 rpm. I was proud to myself, the people from the speed centre could notting change on the carbs. it was perfect and has a nice air / fuel range. 93.5 HP on the rear wheel, but only 65 mph Max. at 3800 rpm. So I think to change the rear axle next year for a century axle for less rpm on the highway. Greetz, Bert
  5. Thanks Paul, and Wilf, Yep that`s mine. see my galery. Greetz, Bert
  6. Hi Paul, I`m also a Buick enthusiast from the Netherlands . I read your tread yesterday with great interest because the last three years I restore a `41 Special Sedanette 46S. It is nice to see your solutions for my problems. But, what a speed in restoration and still a nice job. I`ll drive my car now one year and it seems I`ve all the problems under control. It`s nice driving such an old car. Next year I`ll work to the rear axle to get more top speed for Highway use. On this time I work on a `42 Century 4drs, and this car becomes to be a ratrod with a V8 and big tires. It has a beautiful patina and is original, the engine is broke ( a connecting rod is coming out) and not to restore. <o:p></o Go on with the good job: More old BUICK`s in the Netherlands. If you like we can contact each other to see our cars live, send me a PM.<o:p></o Greetz, Bert<o:p></o
  7. Hi Gary, Good to hear from you here. I`ve a picture in my photo gallery. In february I bought also a `42 Buick Century 4 drs in New Mexico, sadly the car is still in the States. On the last moment it seems there is no Title with the car. Lucky me, I don`t have paid for the car jet. The Motor Vehicle Division is investgate now foe 3 month. Succes with your car, and let me know. Bert
  8. Hey guys, thanks for all information. Yes with "block" I mean the core. Also I`ve put the garden hose in the radiator, it comes out just so fast as it commes in. The spring in the lower hose is a good one. I will check the water pump again on the flow. The both fan blades turned in the right direction. Now I think, maybe the flow is to low. Thanks, Bert
  9. Thanks for your reactions. I`ve cleaned the engine during overhauling and rebuilding last year. After that I cleaned the radiator ans engine several times, but no result. I`ll check the lower radiator hose but it`s one year old. I can drive the hole day with 45mph with no problem but 55 - 60 mph on the hyway give problems. is it possible that the vacuum advance gives the problem? I`ve 32 degrees advance at 3000 rpm. Thanks, Bert
  10. Hi, my `41 46S with dual carbs is still running hot after a Hyway drive from about 50 mls at 55 mph. This at a outside temp from 71 degrees, water temp rises to 215 degrees. It only happens at hyway use. I think I have everything done to make it alright. A new block in the radiator, rebuild the waterpump, cleaned the cylinder head and engine block, adjust the ignition, installed a colder thermostat, and make closer the valve under the thermostat to have a less mixture from hot and cold water. Also I`ve checked the temp gauge and installed a electric fan in front of the radiator. I put also 2 new edelbrock 94 carbs on the car and make them simultaneously, it runs great and save`s fuel. Last week I put the car on the dyno for fine tuning and it has 94 Hp on the rear wheel, not bad I think. Has anyone a suggestion for my temp problem? Thanks, Bert (Netherlands)
  11. Yes, it`s my engine now. I bought this engine after my original engine has a crack in the block. I overhault it and now It`s running in a `41 special 46S. Again a original car is saved. ( not a Chevy V8 in it) Greetz, Bert
  12. I have a Special 46S, compound carbs. I bought the car 2 years ago in South Dakota and ship it to the Netherlands. Till now I never drive the car, it needs a complete body off restoration. I working now 2 years on it and when everyting is going OK then after winter time I drive to the technical inspection to become licence plates. Bert Buick 46S `41 Buick Riviera `71 Chevy C10 `74
  13. Thanks Eric, That`s what I need to know. I`ve now a Air gap of 0.06 but I can change that. The solution with the Bolt is maybe also item to try. Falco
  14. Thanks Pete for your information. The picture on the second file is the one I`ve got this week. My thinking is, there must be a Air flow with the valve`s closed to progressing the Idling sysyem in the rear carburetor. When there is no Air, there is no fuel. I think, I must find out in practice. Thanks, Falco
