  1. Do you only use it where you can't remove the rust mechanically because you can't be sure it really does what the sellers say it does?
  2. Anyone have any experience using a rust converter product? Would you recommend using it?
  3. Thanks. It doesn't make any noise after the initial clunk of shifting into reverse. No more clunking/noise when backing up. Does that tell you anything? IOW, would no noise when backing up eliminate the possibility of a bad reverse gear?
  4. I have a 63 Riviera with Dynaflow trans. It shifts into drive quietly but shifts into reverse with a rather loud clunk. Anybody know why this could be? Thanks.
  5. Here is the response I received promptly from J&G Relining, "Hi Tim, Thanks for the interest in are reline, We are relining Pontiac & Buick drums and soon to start relining Dotson Z aluminum drums. Some of the things we do when we get your drums is to check them for cracks or damage, we check to see what size the liner is at and if it has worn thru into the aluminum drum. After removing the old liner we check the drum up to make sure it is round, we than measure it and turn down a new cast iron liner to 12 thousand of that size and than we press, glue and pin the liner into the drum. We than turn down the inside liner to 10 thousands of the finish size, all drums are cleaned in are wash machine, shot blasted to remove all old paint and grim and after the liner has been installed the drum gets glass beaded to make the aluminum look like new again. Hope this helps, there are many more steps that it takes to get it completed but this is only the overview. The total cost per drum is $245.00 and we have about a 16 day turn around time at this point and growing. If you need any repairs we also can do that in-house and don't have to send anything out. Hope to hear from you soon and SPRING is around the corner. Thanks Don Booker J&G Drum Relining"
  6. Thanks Tim and Ed. I sent an e-mail to J&G for a price. My drums still have a little life left in them but if I use J&G I'll let you know how it goes. Tim
  7. Is it possible to buy new Alfin drums? If not, is it possible to have worn down Alfin drums refurbished somehow? Or once the Alfins are worn too thin, is that the end for them and do I then have to go to regular drums? Thanks.
  8. Thanks Ed. Is the dash plastic painted from the factory or is the color of the plastic integral to the plastic from the factory? In other words, if I spray painted the repair, would I be left with a spot on the dash that has obviously been painted, on what is otherwise colored plastic? Follow?
  9. Yes Ed, repectfully, you are confused. I'm talking about the actual hard plastic dash board IN which the instruments are mounted. NOT the upholstered PAD that sits atop it and butts up against the windshield.
  10. Ed, If I understand you, you're saying to apply this vinyl on the backside of the dash/crack to strengthen the dash plastic to prevent further travel of the crack? If so, can you suggest any type of resin/filler to be introduced into the back of the crack itself? THEN apply the vinyl.
  11. Hi Ed, The crack in my dash is in the hard plastic of the dash board body itself. Above the speedometer in the overhang not at the bottom in the upholstered bumper ( near the knees). Do you know any technique to fill it. I was thinking of removing the dash pad, tape the underside of the crack, fill the crack from above with some sort of low viscosity resin/filler?
  12. No, not in this photo. Where is it?
  13. A ONE INCH crack? How do you sleep at night?
  14. Thanks Jim. Have you ever known a crack in the dash plastic to travel?
  15. Mine has power wing-windows but the passenger-side armrest only has a control switch for the main window. None for the wing. Could it have come from the factory this way? Did the buyer have the option of eliminating passenger control of the passenger wing-window? Also, the dash has a short(quarter inch) thin crack(caused by an impact, probably a tool) in the plastic up under the dash overhang right at the metal trim where it meets the dash pad. What is the proper way to repair this crack? Thank you, Tim
  16. Jim, thanks for the info. All very interesting.
  17. Oh, mine does have the remote outside side rear view mirror.
  18. It also has tilt steering wheel. Was that an option in 63?
