  5. Hi Alex,

Sorry for the late response, hope you're doing well with the new addition to the family, and getting some sleep once in a while! :) As for the door, I'm not sure you can modify it to work on a 2 door hard top, unfortunately.

I think if you examine the door closely, it will be considerably different than the other door at the window opening at the top as well, as they had to make it to fit the frame for the sedan window. I'm guessing that there is enough difference that trying to work it over may be more expensive than a new door. I am not sure the sedan inner door, where all the window hardware attaches is the same as the hardtop door with attachment holes and points. Same goes for the door latch inner and associated hardware.

Sorry for the most likely unfortunate news, but if it were me, I'd be looking for a new door. PM me, if you are looking for another. I might be able to help.

    Jim

  6. Hi Alex,

I think one door is for a 2 door hardtop and the other is for a 2 door sedan. The frame on the sedan is removeable, so it looks the passenger side door is for the sedan - less frame. Here is a picture of my sedan door with the frame removed and it looks a lot like your passenger door. I'm pretty sure the door opening (lower) is the same, howver when the frame is attached, the door is larger (taller). Also, harware is completely different, so hardtop hardware will not work in a sedan door shell, hence the spot welded bracket.

I don't have a picture of the inside, but from the looks of the pictures, I'll bet that's what you have.

  7. Well, so far I'm going with the GL-4 that EmTee recommended. It looks like that type of hypoid oil is recommended in the Chassis Manual. There isn't any ATF in the rear end, as I replaced all the seals (torque ball and shaft) on the transmission when I installed it. It was also rebuilt by Jim Hughes, so it should be good!

Thanks all for the recommendations and research

The front door rubbers and seals are the same as Chevrolet. The Electra has taller glass at the rear of the front doors on the 2-door models but otherwise they are the same. Not sure on the 4-door models but the bottom half is all standard GM with different skins. The Electra also has longer rear doors so they are different (same design). I purchased the correct window fuzzies with the stainless top from Ecklers (Chevrolet) and made new staples to fit. I just tried to find them again but a quick search failed, but anyone supplying CORRECT Chevrolet seals should be the right ones. As the rear doors are longer, try using the front ones? LeSabre & Invicta share even more parts with Chevrolet but you will be surprised how much is the same, and easier to locate as there are more Chevrolet suppliers than there is for Buick. Just don't tell them it is not going on a Chevrolet!

BRB62, perhaps they are. I have found that in my 57 Buick, the sweeps were 9/16" tall and the Chevy one size fits all were 1/2" tall, making a bit of a problem when I went to install on door garnish moldings. They didn't quite look right or fit well. Re-did them with 9/16" and went and looked right. Same with the ones attached to the door. 9/16" tall as well. Maybe in 1963 they consolidated design and went to one size fits all. I know in 57 they are quite different.

SMS is sending the correct brown.  I am going to go to a couple fabric stores around town and see if I can get something close.  This stuff is outrageously expensive.

    Adam,

First, nice add to the collection. I love the looks of the 1960 Buick and the Duece and a Quarter is a LONG tall drink of water! For the seats and interior stuff, I use a couple of places for automotive vinyl for upholstery. Miami Corp (www.miamicorp.com), Your Auto Trim (www.yourautotrim.com) and C.A.R.S Inc.(Tri Five Chevy and Older Chevy (58-72) restoration parts - www.carsinc.com)

Miami Corp and Your Auto Trim has a ton of atuomitive and marine vinyls in many colors at a reasonable price per yard. CARS (not NJ) sells yardage of tri-five and newer materials and vinyls in correct grains and because they are GM type materials, there may be a match in colors (although not necessarily the same model year.) You'd have to possibly send a sample to them as well.

Just some resources that I've used outside of $M$.... :)

Good luck and feel free to get a hold of me if you have any interior build questions. I spent my last 7 years at Magna Seating - Automotive Seating Supplier.
