  1. About 6 years ago I sold a really, really nice '58 Dodge Coronet. I loved that car and cursed it at the same time. Ever since she left me I've wanted another Forwardlook.  About 2 months ago I was searching and found a '61 Desoto about 2 hours from my house. I called the guy, who was pretty light on details but I made it over to his shop two days later with cash. Here's what I bought.

I've always been a vintage car enthusiast.  As an example, I spent about 15 years doing a full restoration on a 1958 Dodge Coronet.  During those years restoring that car, I had wanted to buy so many other cars but couldn't due to financial reasons.  A few years ago I sold that Dodge and made a commitment to start buying and enjoying all of those other cars that were on my bucket-list.  I also made the commitment to not get too attached to any of those cars, to drive and enjoy them often, but only for a year or so then sell, buy another, sell, and so on.  In order to memorialize my purchases and experiences I started making simple slide show video's and posted them to Youtube.  My feeble early video attempts have progressed and I like to think the quality has improved as well.  I would like to invite you to take a look at my Youtube channel, browse through some of the video's showing the cars, trucks, vans and burnouts and see if there is anything interesting to you.  I would also invite feedback as well since these video's are my simple attempt at expanding the hobby, sharing with others and documenting my experiences.

     

    So, if you have a moment take a look.  If you like what you see then let me know.  If there are things you wanted to see or a way to improve then let me know that too.  I'm interested to hear the good and bad in order to improve.

There were two versions of the Corvair pickup, one was the Rampside (for obvious reasons) while the other was a Loadside that had rear tailgate only and no side ramp.   I have no idea why a new truck buyer would want a Loadside instead of a Rampside and production numbers showed the same.  Rampside production was something like 13,786 while Loadside was less than 1/10th at 2,844.   Check out this camper version of a Rampside without the ramp.

  4. I'm selling my daily driver quality '74 Cadillac Calais Coupe. She is in original condition, has about 105K miles and drives as smooth and soft as a pillow. She has good tires, strong brakes and a recently replaced rear filler panel. She'll need the exhaust replaced and the wipers recently quit working but otherwise, she makes a pretty decent daily driver. I'd like to get $3post-65347-143142908313_thumb.jpg,200 for her.

  5. I have a fresh Q-Jet that I had rebuilt this past summer by Custom Rebuilt Carbs in New Jersey. I ran the car on my Custom Cruiser for about a week or two before swapping to another carb. I've since sold the car and no longer have a need for this carb. Between buying the core and the rebuild I have somewhere around $350 in this. I'd like to get somewhere around $300 though.

  6. It's interesting that I've got the same problems with my '66 Toronado - low on power, low vacuum and a consistent stumble when idling. I too checked for all vacuum leaks and still got the same 12 inches on the vacuum gauge. Today I pulled the plugs and found just on the drivers side, #1 and #3 are rich and dry while #5 and #7 are lean. I'm wondering if this is one more indicator of a timing chain issue and if your spark plugs are showing a similar condition?

    Thanks for the comments. I sold the Travelall just a few weeks ago but that truck was probably the most enjoyable old car I've ever had. It rode very nicely for a truck, the steering was surprisingly accurate, the brakes were terrific, gobs of low RPM torque, tons of room and that quirky style. You're right about visibility too as it's amazing how well you can see all around you. The Imperial was an incredible highway cruiser. Super smooth, effortless power, handled really well, powerful disc brakes, comfortable seats and leather and not a single shake or vibration even at 70 MPH. I drove the car 3.5 hours to Carlisle than back again later that same day with the top down and it was the most enjoyable, comfortable, non-fatiquing drive I ever took. As for the Toronado, I can't believe how undervalued these car are. I've always lusted over these cars and after selling the T'All, I seized my chance to get one. I'm anxious for it to arrive and really get into it.

  8. Oldsfan and others, thanks a bunch for your insight on the car and the pricing. This car has the right color for me as I really prefer this burgundy over any of the lighter colors like beige, regardless of price. I did go back and confirm the rebuild of the drivetrain from about 10 years ago and the rust free nature of the car but because it's too far away I can't inspect and confirm first. I did renegotiate on the price and got it down $1500. The little things like the overflow tank and such is relatively minor to me as my plan is to drive the wheels off this thing. I did notice the rear panel was missing the chrome pieces and figured they were painted over as a short cut. Overall though, I'm feeling more comfortable with the car and price and I'm ready to pull the trigger now. Just need to figure out shipping next.

  9. Guys, thanks for the input. Joe, I follow the eBay auctions too and that is how I derive some sort of real time costs for a vehicle. Paul, here is the Toronado I'm considering. It's billed as being an outstanding original with 85K miles, one repaint about 10 years ago, chrome wheels, rebuilt engine, trans, front axles and disc brake addition. The seller was asking $16K, we have an agreement for $11.5K but I'm starting to think I need to be closer to $10K. It is the 'right' color for me and I love the idea of the rebuilt drivetrain and disc brakes, but I'm not sure it's worth paying a premium.

  10. I'm struggling with pricing on a '66 Toronado that I'm interested in buying! It seems that Old Car Price Guide, NADA and Hagerty all have wildly different pricing for a '66 and '67 Toronado. Are there any early Toronado experts that can steer me in the right direction in regards to pricing? I'm looking at a '66 that is in about a #2 condition with excellent interior, paint, brightwork, 85K miles and rebuilt engine and trans. My gut is telling me around around the $10K range but I can't get a sense of the market for these cars.

  11. I don't have one for sale but I do commend you for going through your credit union instead of a bank. More people need to start doing business with a credit union and realize the benefits of members serving members.
