1934 Bugatti Type 57 Stelvio Cabriolet

West Peterson

This is an early-production Stelvio with the fold-down windscreen. It carries serial number 57180.

I remember riding around in this car when I was 10 years old. It was the first "Classic Car" that my dad bought. He picked it up in Paris in 1954, after buying it for $300. He then traveled around Europe with it, taking it to England, where it boarded a ship to Philadelphia. It was then driven from Philadelphia to Minneapolis. It was sold in 1974 to Jim Southard, Atlanta. It then went to a man in Florida, who held on to it for a long time. It most recently turned up at a dealer in England, with an asking price of some $400,000. Unfortunately, the original headlights were replaced with a pair that are not nearly as attractive. The replacements stand up too high and look like "frog-eyes."

I wonder where this car is today???
