Guest
Does anyone know the "end clearance" of the impeller to the cover in the oil pump in a 1923 DB?
nearchoclatetown
i haven't found dodge brothers specification but most pumps use .002 or .003 clearance. you can use emory cloth on a flat surface to lap your gears or end plate.taping the emory to a sheet of glass works. Guest
I have not found official DB spec. on that clearance either, but have foundas the previous respondant says, about .002/.003 would be correct. The mostcommon fault some have done is using too thick a gasket between the pump bodyand the cover plate. That gasket originally is paper thin. Otherwise there will be blow by under the rotary part with the impeller blades and will not build up proper pressure. Also be careful to get those impeller blades installed in the proper orientation. Some pumps I have disassembled have tapred truncated ends. Others have a blunted kind of rounded ends which doesn't matter which way they are installed. Good Luck.
