Ray500 Posted May 30, 2016 Share Posted May 30, 2016 I think those cars had mechanical brakes, not hydraulic introduced in 1940. You can get a switch to be activated by the brake pedal. A little engineering should get it done. Once you get a switch working when the brake pedal is activated, then just run a battery wire to the switch and the other side of the switch to the tail light. That way it will come on when the brake is activated. Be sure to put a 5 amp fuse in line with the battery to the switch so if there's a short or problem it will blow the fuse rather than overheating the wiring. If you can mount a different stop light on the rear that would be better. You might also be able to modify rear light to accept a dual filament light bulb like new cars...#1157 lamp is one that will work. There are 'backup' light switches on the market that would also work. You might try Mac's Ford parts to see what he has that would work. Good luck!
