Guest missM
This old photo of a Chevy sedan has a prominent emblem on the grille with "Grand Rapids" emblem in script, maybe some additional text below, the resolution is not great.A dealership logo? car club? Grand Rapids brewing company? I don't have a clue, and it is stuck in my head.and the tag? think it is maybe a 1935 Michigan plate.Any help appreciated, it is someones ancestor in the photo. Guest missM
1932 Chevrolet with a Grand Rapids, Michigan vanity emblem. I have seen them for Portland, Oregon and various other famous cities.Thank you keiser, makes sense, so showing hometown or hailing port if it was a boat kind of thing? didn't think folks would be that interested in the dealership putting their logo so prominently.Long time since I've been here, new format or new host for the forum? we have had conversations here several before, but see my old history is gone. You da man, thanks again.
Guest mikeburch
I believe that they were aftermarket items, sold at normal auto parts stores. I have an old one from my very small hometown of Spencer, West Virginia. It is cast aluminum. I also have a vintage photo of a car with the same emblem on the grille.mikeburch
Guest mikeburch
My theory is that there were traveling salesmen, traveling the country, during the depression, carrying their furnace and aluminum, going to different parts stores and offering these signs, in any name they wanted. ??????mikeburch
