RivNut
Except for the S8, for which I don't have a reference, here's how the trim tag decodes:63 - year of production4747 - model - RivieraFB 35,862 is the chronological production sequence for the Riviera, this is out of 40,000788 J2 is Black leatherDD is paint color "silver cloud"D - Radio - there were four radio options in 63S8 (the weird thing about this is that normally these codes are in alphbetical order so why does S follow the D and precede the II (not 1) 6 - Tinted GlassN2 - Air conditioningU7 - Power windowsIn 1963, the code number on the plate is the same option number found on the window sticker.Hope this helps and perhaps someone will be able to figure out what the S8 is. RivNut
Not in '63, that was part of the Super Wildcat option in 64 and the Gran Sport option in 65. Either someone has updated your engine or dropped a later engine in your chassis. Check the stamped (not cast) numbers on the valley cover rail at the front of the engine on the passenger side. The correct code for a 1963 425 will be JW. If it's KW, it's a 64 engine, LW is a 65 engine, and MW is a 66 engine. Chances are if you still have the dynaflow trans, someone has just updated the engine with the valve covers. A full option would also include a chrome air cleaner and DUAL FOUR BARREL CARBURETORS.
