help please: is this 71 chevelle a malibu?

Recommended Posts

hi

how can I tell if the 71 chevelle I am looking at is a malibu?

Seller says it is and thinks the malibu tags were not reinstalled on the car.

Where are the malibu tags located?

Also is there a trim data plate and if so where is it located.

VIn # off door is 136371R135058

I have decoded it and it says chevelle.

thanks for any help. I have attached 2 pix.

That cars a beauty. Theres no real way to tell if its a malibu except the original options. If hes selling it as one I would say it is because if its anything else the price would just go up. The trim data plate should be on top the firewall where the top of the hood opens up on the drivers side. If I get the time tomorrow I will post a pic of mine on my 72. Its in the same place as my 70 monte so it should be there too.

It has the wheel opening and rocker moldings of a Malibu, but those could be retrofitted to the standard Chevelle Sport Coupe. I see no front-fender "Malibu" nameplates. The standard Chevelle had no side nameplates.

If you post pictures of the interior, I could tell you instantly if it's a Chevelle or Malibu. The Malibu had soft-vinyl (as opposed to hard plastic) interior door trim and had a small rectangular "Malibu" nameplate on the inner door trim.

Why not look for a build sheet either under the back seat or in the door panel, this will tell you what you have?
