unclemrbig
I have a 75 Caprice and want to rework the doors. The paint on the lower interior door panels is chipped and some of the original paint is peeling off of the panel. Any ideas on how to remove the paint without ruining the plastic? I would then repaint each panel. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks.
R Walling
I would wash the part with lacquer thinner to remove the paint.Try the back first to see if it dissolves the plastic. I don?t think it will.Use a wet rag and try to do the whole panel as quickly as possible, using twoor three rags as they get dirty. A terry cloth towel works best. Then spray itwith vinyl paint. Guest 36chev
I think folks who work on model cars (plastic) sometimes soakpainted parts in ammonia or bleach--this usually loosens paint without damaging the plastic. Another more caustic suggestion is to try oven cleaner--that might not damage the plastic too much.
Jay Wolf
I have used Easy Off oven cleaner. I has been safe to any plastic I have tried. But you better check it. Use gloves or it will turn your finger nails brown.(Trust me I know)
