Guest genesmith
My 1990 3.01 V6 starts fine in the morning. After driving any distance, on subsequent starts it seem to load up gasoline and even after catching won't stay running unless I stabilize the tach at about 1000 RPM using the gas pedal. I have replaced the air filter, cleaned and gapped the spark plugs, cleaned the throttle body, twice, and run some injector cleaner through the fuel system. There are no codes except 55 showing. Any suggestions?

TwinCamFan
So after the motor is hot, and when you restart, are you pretty sure it is 'loading up' with fuel? Is there raw fuel smell and blue/white smoke coming from the exhaust? If so, I suspect the fuel pressure regulator has issues. If the coolant temp/air intake temp sensors was telling the computer that the motor was 'cold' (and richening up the mixture) when it was not, I think they would throw a code. There is a way to check those sensors with an Ohmmeter. Check the manual but I think the range is between 9K-11K ohms at 75 degrees for the baseline resistance value. If the motor does not want to stay running but you lack the rich smell with accompanying smoke, I'd suspect the fuel pump. If you know someone with a fuel pressure guage that has the Chrysler Schrader adaptor and could measure the fuel pressure during the problem, that would help with diagnosis. Keep in mind I've only worked on two of the 3.0 motors, most of my experience is with the turbo motors. <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> Alan
Guest genesmith
Alan, you were right. It was the fuel pressure regulator. Thanks for the help.Gene
