oldstudemike
I'm putting together a Light 6 engine out of a 1921. Can anyone tell me what the max or recommended bearing clearance would be for both rods and mains? Thanks
Guest
I was once told that .005" per inch diameter was always an acceptable clearance. That is what I used on my Pontiac and I have never had any trouble. 280,000 miles later I am still using #20 wt oil and have had no trouble at all. I use my car as a daily driver (about 1000 miles a month, half city and half highway).
montrose
.005 per inch of journal diameter is far too much clearance!!! Perhaps you are off by a decimal point?Joel

Guest
My apologies. I dropped a zero. Should have been .0005" per inch diameter or .0015" total clearance on my rods and mains.Mea Culpa Mea Culpa Mea Culpa.
