51chief
I just acquired this '51 Chieftain over the weekend. Once the car warmed up, I started noticing a lot of moisture both inside and outside the windshield at the drivers defrost vent. I then noticed antifreeze dripping, and traced it up to the defroster heater core housing on the firewall. I thought I could just uncouple the hoses and remove the screws holding the two halves of the housing together, but there is still solid resistance when I try to separate the halves. There are other small screws on the face of the housing, and 4 screws on the bottom which seem to anchor the core itself. I hesitated to start unscrewing aimlessly, and the shop manual (mine, at least) doesn't go into disassembly detail. I won't be able to fix the front seal leak on the Hydramatic, but I was hoping to at least fix this one on my own. Thanks in advance for any guidance.
