Recommendation for Struts

I finally need them. Rough on little joints and holes in the road, a bit of floating. Got brand new tires so might as well do some struts now.

Any recommendations? If you've had good luck with a brand name store, like to hear it. I'll be in LA area or just east of there and would like to have them put in while I'm hanging around taping up window pillar facsias, arguing with glass companies and stuff, you know.

I've been running Monroe Sensatracs. I'd say they're more performance oriented and are a bit firm. I'm not sure of AC Delcos or other brands, though. Because of the Reatta's nature, I'm not sure if there really is a softer strut or not.

My originals were hitting bumps hard, though the struts in Claret were floaty. I swore the front end bottomed out once.

Why not pretend it's a '95-99 Riviera?

Yeah, I hit a bump today and thought someone has welded solid metal together. Not a real large bump, just enough.

I put Sensamatics on the Fiero and they work real nice so I guess on they go.

On the 95-99 Riviera, try the 77-78 Toronados. That big ol engine up front, front drive and a float where the hood pounds up and down. Think you were riding the ocean. Fond memories like the snow on the moonroof melting and pouring in. Beauty of a car though.

Thanks for the posts F14

Not a problem. You doing it yourself or having them installed? You mentioned the Fiero, but I wasn't certain.

Just from the look of those Riviera's (not bad, really) and a wavy intersection (St. Joesph crossing Waverly in Lansing) made me decide against owning one.

F14, having them done. I did the Fieros and they were rather...difficult, ostely because of the cramped quarters. I had a dealer switch the springs since that is just a PITA. The cost is well worth having someone else do that part of the job. Then all thats need is an alignment.

I'm going to see if I can find a Pep Boys around here (East of LA) and get them done there. That way if there is any issues the dealer close to home can provide support.

Late last night about midnight, runnig down I-5 between 90 and some higher speed, I hit some undulations. Whooooaaaaaa pony! Didn't bottom but I could se the front end doing the side to side dance. I really need to slow down but I was trying to get somewhere an hour sooner than I thought I'd be there.

BTW, that big fire they have; had to seal up the car and run without ventilation. Pretty bad. Time to change the air filter now too ;-)

When I got my car with 96K I noticed right away that the struts were shot because of the hard ride. It wasn't until I got new ones (and shortly after, new tires) that I recognized how crappy the handling had been. No, it does not ride like a Cadillac, or corner like a sports car, but I still am amazed at what an improvement it made. Best money spent on the car so far. <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />

Replacing mine with Monroe Sensatracs. I just received the rears today hopefully the fronts tommorrow. The front part# is 359 71854 and the rear is #359 71966. I bought them from www.rockauto.com and their pricing was the best I found and received them in 2 days with ground shipping. Total price was around $298.00 with shipping for all four.

I see. Yeah I was gonna say...if you have the money, it's not a job worth doing yourself. I had 153k miles when I did mine, and all my bushings still seemed tight. I didn't replace the front strut mount on top cuz i figured it's still good. My knowledge got better though, and my ball joints and steering rod ends were shot and should have been replaced when I did the struts.
