blanyo
We have a 1938 Dodge and are trying to figure out how to best price it for sale. Any general advice and guidelines on where to figure this out?
cpwalter
The key to pricing a car is the condition of the car. It could be a rare car or a common car but if the condition is poor it could be worth nothing because of the cost to transport today is very high. So what do you have? Business coupe or two door sedan? Coupe is worth more. Sedans are the least valuable. Old Cars magazine list them from $500 for a grade 6 to $12,500 for a number 1. Are you missing any parts? Does it have any accessories? Does it run? Is the engine free? There are a lot of questions that need to be answered to come to a sellable price.Bill
blanyo
Thanks for the quick response. The car is a 2 door sedan and it is in fair shape. We're not sure how to categorize it on the 1 to 6 scale that you mention. It isn't running but the engine is free. The interior is in good shape but there is a good amount of rust externally. It is all original throughout and has no accessories to our knowledge (not sure what these would be anyway). The car was my grandfather's originally in '38 and has been in the family since that time. It is now 'living' in Florida but originally from North Carolina. Can anyone suggest specific websites, magazines, etc. for reference to further categorize condition and determine pricing? Thanks again for any help or ideas.
cpwalter
Pick up an Old Cars Pricing guide on the news stand. That is about all that you will find that can guide you. Does the car have rust holes in the body? Is the trunk rusted through? Is it stored outside or in? What is the condition of the chrome bumpers? The chrome grill? The hood ornament?Front floor rusted through under the mat or rug? If you would like to discuss off line you are welcome to contact me direct at tomhorn@rcn.com.
