1940s Rear spring, wrapped

Recommended Posts

Hi all. I have my rear leaf spring out of the car and it is wrapped in the thin metal plate which keeps the lube inside. This is the spring with the lubricable tie-bolt. Can anyone help me with a few queries?

1. What's the best lubricant to use these days, replacing the M-4628 quoted in the old bulletins? I assume this is an oil rather than a grease.

2. If I break that metal cover at the join, is there a source for replacement covers? Or is it best to forget about stripping it off and just freshen it up as is?

3. Is there a source for the lubricable tie-bolt, the grooved nut and the adaptor which goes in the nut?
