Guest Buick
Hi Folks, I have recently bought a 1916 D45 and I find that I have a problem with the kingpins having worn the eyes in the fork ends slighly oval. Is there a standard "fix" for this? Is there a supplier for replacement kingpins and a helicoil set for 5/8 inch 20 tpi threads? Best wishes,Buick
Guest
On my 41 Dodge PU the local machine shop said it would weaken the axle to bore it out oversize enough to get rid of the oval. Instead he sawed lengthwise throught the axle, pressed the cut together and welded it. When bored to the right size he said it was as strong as the original. I has lasted as an almost daily driver for 20 years.
