Question about Car Serial Number

Hi Guys, we recently bought 2 dodge brothers car one 20 or 21 and one a 24, we are currently doing research on the 20/21 trying to figure out exactly which it is. We have tried looking on the frame for serial numbers but its too badly pitted and the toe plate is missing. We found a number stamped on the firewall and were wondering if this is also a car serial number or what it is, we have looked in several DB books but still arent sure of what number it represents. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

The serial numbers on the '20/'21 are in different location from the '24. On the earlier, the number is on top of the frame cross member on the passenger's side just ahead of the seat. Usually all rusty as you said. On the later, it will be found on the right front frame just aft and above the rear spring shackle bolt. The firewall number you mentioned is the 'body' number and will be, for most purposes, irrelevant. The engine number should be appx. 50,000 higher than the official car or frame number which will have been on that floor board tag you mentioned.
