Black Paint Over Red, Factory?

Recommended Posts

The 87 Shelby Charger GLHS only came in black, however a guy in Florida swears he is an original owner

and his car is red underneath. I have been collecting parts from a 90 TC in a junkyard over the last couple of weeks

it is a Black/Ginger car, but underneath the black, the car is red. Yeah, I was thinking repaint as well

but the amount of dissasembly it would have taken to do this thourough of a color change, it just

doesn't make sense. Not only is it black the usual places but also underhood, in the trunk, under the door jam

trim, but even under all the center mounted stop light stainless trim and under the winshield trim.

All the weatherstripping was either removed or not yet in place when the car was reshot in black, heck even all the

areas under the tonneau are in black. The door stripping is from a black car, it is scratched though

in spots and no red paint shows underneath. The decklid is from a black car, no red there either, but the hood, doors and unibody

definatly show red when scratched. Any documented cases of factory color changes to meet production needs?
