Silicon Brake Fluid

Guest

Recommended Posts

I recently rebuilt the brakes in my 1938 Buick, and refilled the system with silicon brake fluid. Could have been a big mistake. I find silicon leaks even out of rebuilt wheel cylenders, and seems to effect the brake light switch - you have to really push to get the brake light to come on. Do other folks have problems, or is it just me?

there have been numerous posts about the pros and cons of silicone fluid. I personnaly do not think it is necessary, but many in this group think it is. I have heard horror stories about both types of fluid, so it is really a personal call. i have had regular brake fluid in my 40 Buick for 30 years and I have redone the system twice, once when I purchased the car in 1972 and again when I redid it in 1988.The brakes have always worked well and I see no reason to change. This car is used reguarly and has been driven by me over 90,000 miles. Perhaps the people experiencing problems with their brakes do not use their cars as much and the silicone fluid works better for them.I do know that most people using silicone fluid have hydraulic brake switch problems. It is really up to you. wink.gif" border="0
