danlb63
Help! need to pull engine and trans from my '56 Special. Can they be pulled together? Never dealt with torque tube before. Whats the secret to disconnecting it? Do you have to move the rearend? Do you disconnect the trans from the cross member and remove cross memeber? Any help would be appreciated. The Old Guy
Four bolts will disconnect the torque tube from the tranny, but then you should pull the rear end back to disconnect the drive shaft from the U-joint. If you are removing the engine and trans as a unit, you will have to drop the trans cross member to allow room to tilt the engine to clear the radiator cross member. When pulling the rear end back, do not forget to unhook the brake line, the sway bar and the shock links.
