Guest
The operating shafts for my 41 Buick Super are pitted and corroded and in need of repair/rechroming. Problem is that wipers are left out of '41 Shop Manual. It looks like I would have to remove dash, then vacuum motor, to get to the underside of external wiper posts. Passenger side I may be able to reach by removing glove box. Is there an easier way or is this it? Thanks.
palbuick
I haven't done this in years, but if you remove the radio and glove box you should be able to remove the transmission fairly easy, only one bolt holds bracket to trans, and a spring holds arms onto the wiper motor. Wiper on/off knob on dash will come off easy. No need to remove dash.
Good luck
Jim Schilf / palbuick@aol.com
Guest
Jim: Tnanks for the info. I forgot about the radio and you're right, it takes up a good deal of workable space. From what I can see, the underside of the wiper motor transmission and arm seem in great shape although there's surface rust on the underside of the cowl above it. I expect that the fasteners for the wiper blade posts that are so pitted will be rusty or at least frozen in place. Moisture, it seems, gets into that area via the fresh air vent. Thanks again!
