f.f.jones
1974: Ford Pavilion Constructed on the former site of the "Rail Hub of the Inland Northwest" Fair Preparations: October 1972 As the preparation for Expo 74 got into high gear the area facing Trent Ave, now Spokane Falls Blvd, the buildings situated on what is now Riverfront Park were ready for the wrecking ball. In this photo the Great Northern railroad station was still standing, as was Union Station at right. Ford pavilion during the fair: 50 years after the fair: Present day: The view of Riverfront Park and the Spokane River shows few remnants of Expo ’74, outside of the First Interstate Center for the Arts, formerly the Washington State Pavilion. The trees have matured and there are a handful of new downtown buildings since then.
