Here is a graphic I did that some may find useful here. This is for folks that are going to take the time to do a true TDC adjustment. Using this method you only have to set up 2 TDC firing cylinders and you can adjust every valve. This will allow for proper hot or cold, clean feeler, precision work. Some will be surprised to see some valves come up more than once, don't be and, no, you can don't have to do them twice. The technique is close to 100 years old and I am always surprised how few people know about it. 

 

For those that do their tuning on running tappets this will be of no use. 
For those that have their distributors mounted in an non standard position, fix it before using this guide.
