SOLD: 1956 Ford Courier Sedan Delivery: An outstanding original that is ready to use and enjoy.

This 1956 Ford Courier Sedan Delivery was built in San Jose, CA. Based on some quick research, it appears that less than 9,000 were built this during the 1956 model year. The first owner was a funeral home near Omaha, Nebraska and the car spent most of its life in this area. This delivery car has been driven just over 87,000 miles. It has been well cared for and properly maintained. One can imagine that the funeral home kept it in a garage and always looking good!


This delivery truck is very, very original. The Raven Black paint is mostly original with the exception of a few touch-ups and a small repair. It shines up nicely, but has plenty of flaws when you get up close as one would expect from a 60+ year old paint job. The sheet metal is superb. I don't see any evidence of rust, damage or repairs. The door gaps are excellent and the body lines are crisp. All of the panels are amazingly straight.

Underneath, this delivery is just as nice as it is on top. It appears to have been undercoated when new. There is no rust, damage or repairs. The inner rockers, floor supports and tail pan are all in perfect condition. The floors are as good as new. I have never seen a Ford of this era in such great condition underneath.

The glass is the original, Ford-script. The trim and chrome appear to be original and are generally clean. The inside door panels and headliner are original. The floor mats have been replaced. The bench seat has been reupholstered to the original style Dark Brown Vinyl. The rear cargo area is nicely carpeted and upholstered.

Mechanically, the original 272 CID, Y-Block, V-8 starts easily and runs extremely well. It has the standard, two barrel carburetor and the original 12 volt system. A great feature is the overdrive option attached to the three speed manual transmission. The car goes down the road straight and smooth without rattles, creaks or groans. It has been fitted with newer, radial tires and dual exhaust.

All features on this car appear to function properly. There is a jack and a spare with a radial tire. There is an Owner’s Manual, a tool box full of spare parts, etc.

Built for utility, this delivery car is has minimal options. It has the deluxe heater and full width bench seat. There are a few exterior passenger car upgrades that have possibly been added at a later date including the bumper guards, dual outside mirrors, wheel covers, steering wheel, and tail lights.

Unmolested sedan deliveries are certainly uncommon and highly sought after. The originality of this car combined with its great looks and mechanical condition will make this a welcomed car to drive, enjoy and possibly even put to back to work.
