Auckland, New Zealand. What is the car on the left?

Unfortunately the photo is not very big.

 

The location is Sandringham Road in Auckland. The date is not before June 1951 going by the licence plates. In that era there were new plates issued every five years and this style was current from 1951-56.

 

The scene is typical of car-starved post-WW2 New Zealand when there were still plenty of pre WW2 cars on the road. Remember that even the mystery car on the left is only a little over 20 years old. The car looks to have been fitted with aftermarket - tyre company? - 16 inch wheels.
