Stone-Dead battery

Living in the North woods, I park my 89 Reatta for extended periods during the winter months. I have often wondered how I would get into my locked vehicle if the battery managed to discharge itself down to 0 . The trunk and door locks seem to be operated electrically. Any thoughts on this potential problem?

try this

Open driver's window, lock car, disconnect battery, unlock door with key. Think you will find mechanical system.

Do it and report back OK?

Having lived in Wisconsin until 5 years ago I learned to regularly spray WD 40 on the key and in the door lock to prevent freezing and keep the locks working even at 30 below. Car washes were notorios for getting water in the locks and then commpounding the problem by using compressed air to force it deep into the lock mechanism. Even if you live where it is warm it is a good idea to periodically spray the door and trunk locks to keep the mechanism working smoothly. The ignition on my Reatta was a bear to get to move when I got it and I finally got PO'd enough to spray it. It now works like new. Peeople get so used to using the remote they sometimes forget the locks work with the key. If the battery is dead just use the key to open the door.
