I found a '53 Special parts car with excellent engine/same tranny.Would I also need the '53 bellhousing with that to fit in the 49?? How about shift linkage?? The Old Guy Posted December 26, 2000 Share Posted December 26, 2000 Don't change the bell housing,as they were machined as a unit. If you have to change the bell housing on a straight 8 alway indicate the pilot hole and make sure it runs true with the crank or you will have a tranny that will not stay in gear.
