Guest
64 skylark 300 V8, the distributor is out, and before I can replace it I need help to align marks. the book says to rotate the crank until both valves for #1 cylinder are closed and timing mark on balancer is aligned with the indicator. Are both valves for #1 cylinder ever closed at the same time? I thought one was open while the other was closed? It sure looks that way as I rotate the crank. Guest
Both valves are closed during the compression stroke. When the timing mark on your balancer hits "zero" on the timing mark indicator, you will be at Top Dead Center (TCD). Then you can drop the distributor in and make sure the rotor is pointing to the number 1 cylinder.<P>Ron*
