Guest Posted November 19, 2001 Posted November 19, 2001 My 1928 Chevy (1 1/2 ton truck) is listed as a "CAPITOL" on the VIN plate. I have hundreds of questions about it...like what is the significane of the word "CAPITOL"? But, my current problem revolves around the rear end lubricant. I don't know what to use and local parts stores try to be helpful but they have no experience with this technology. By the way, the old stuff was thicker than molasses and blacker than anything that I have ever seen. (No odor or shavings though.)
Thanks
D Binger Posted November 19, 2001 Posted November 19, 2001 It sounds like you have some genuine 600W oil in your differential. It was very common to use that heavy of an oil in differentials and transmissions years ago. You can still get oil that heavy. Be sure to change it on a very warm day.
Dan
Guest Posted November 20, 2001 Posted November 20, 2001 Listen Rummie,I know what you're going through, a couple of years ago I got a 55 gal, drum of 600w, the genuine stuff I discovered, it's about 15 years old but still perfect, like molasses and dark as you describe.
I'll gladly give you however many pints you need if you send me a suitable container and postage costs.
