Guest
I have a 455 buick with the rope type front oil seal. At high RPM's it blows out. Is there some type of backing plate that goes between the crank and the oil seal to keep it from twisting out?
The Old Guy
The seal is held in by a sheet metal stamping that presses in the housing behind the seal. If you do not have this piece, you can install a neoprene seal. The front seal number is:National 450446
The Old Guy
There should also be a sheet metal oil slinger that slips over the crank hub to deflect oil from the seal area
Guest
Thanks Old Guy, I got the 450446 National seal yesterday and it works perfect. It's dryer than a popcorn fart under the motor now. Thank you so much.
