Guest Steeleco
Well, since it's almost Halloween so this makes sence. As I was driving the riv today I noticed a howling sound "Whoooooo". Very ghostly, coming from what I assume is the rear brakes. Ok, anybody else with scary Riviera stories?
petelempert
Boo. Yeah. I had a really funny howling noise for a few months when I first got my 63. It had been parked for years. I got it running and drove it a bunch. It would whine and howl almost like a siren when it was decelerating and especially when the outside temperature was cold. Very intermittent, very annoying. I rebuilt the entire brake system so I ruled that out as the culprit. Right about the time I figured the rear end was about to grenade...it stopped. Later I had a guy at a Jiffy Lube suck out and replace the dif fluid. He said those old Buick difs are bullet-prooof but that if that hypoid gear oil had been sitting for a while, that might be the cause. The howling stopped and never came back. Happy Halloween.
