V12Brown
I have a '35 V12. I would like to clean the oil pump strainer but before I just jump into doing it is there anything I should be cautious of or any advice?
Dave Mitchell
Nothing really strange there. Drain the pan and the oil cooler/filter unit and then you can drop the inspection plate on the pan. You will have to make a new gasket for that. There is a snap ring type fastener on the center stud that holds the screen on, take that off and the screen will come off. If it is really bad, you might want to take the pan off. Just remember that it comes straight down as there are 2 large pins on the face of the block that locate it. I've seen a lot of broken pans from people trying to force them forward. The 35 has a one year only mechanical filter consisting of rotating discs and scrapers. If it hasn't been cleaned or restored, it might not be working properly, leading to extra crud in the oil. Dave packard12s@hotmail.com
