Guest
Can horsepower be gained/restored by advancing the timing a few degrees?
Guest
oh yea, I would also like to know if I actually lost hp by gutting the catalytic converter and putting a high flow flowmaster muffler in place of the stock. The pipe is 2 and 1/2 inches and it turns down right before the rear axle. You can tell there is very little back pressure. The engine is a 307 Olds with the 4 barrel carb. Also, if anybody has any simple hp mods for this engine, please let me know. Thanks!
The Old Guy
As a rule, advancing the timing will give you a little low speed acceleration and lose some top end. The best thing to do is recurve the advance .The removal of the catalytic convertor helped the engine breathe, but it is now illegal
Guest
One doesn't need to permanently remove the catalytic converter. Just get a wrecking bar or old screw driver and break up the core. You'll need to remove the catalytic converter to get rid of the broken up core. Shouldn't take more than 10 or 15 minutes and put the catalytic converter back on .
