Guest Chrome
Hi!
I'm thinking about switching my straight eight from my Roadmaster to '56 Caddys 365cid V8. Because 320.2 Eight weights more than Caddy engine I'd like to keep it's original ride height or even lower it some.
So, what springs I use? oe is there some firms do some lowride parts for Buicks?
The Old Guy
Switching to the Caddy will not be as simple as changing engines . the Caddy has an open drive line and to install it in your Buick will mean a differential swap and a lot of work to anchor it . If you do it ,there is a suspension specialist named :Fatman Fabrication that has dropped spindles for your 49. His E-mail is :www.fatmanfab.com
Guest Chrome
Yes I know about that detail I've got whole '56 Caddy, but haven't found out good rear axle yet.
Thanks for Fatmans address.
Guest oldtimer
your options for the rear are....4 link, leaf springs, building a torque arm or leaving the stock drivetrain. i have a `50 jetback and i'm going with the leaf spring idea. `66 425 nailhead (factory 2x4), sp400 (maybe 700 or 200r4), ford 9" rear (has the same bolt pattern for stock buick rims). Guest Chrome
Hmm....
I've got whole '56 Caddy, so I could use that car rear axle with leafs, but I think it's too wide.
Jyrki gave me the address where they are doing '48 Sedanette with Trans Am rearend... looks great!
address is www.hotrodsbyglen.com
The Old Guy
You might also look at placing the 49 body on the complete Caddy chassis. I have a 57 special on a 72 Electra chassis and it was an easy swap
