Guest
I just put a new timing chain on my 455 project, but I had a question. I rotated the engine to make the driver's side tight and the passenger side has about 1/2" or so of play. Is this normal or do I need a new timing chain set? Also, I installed the crank sprocket straight up, but would +4 degrees be better? I am following Steve Dove's book on the buildup. Thanks.
Guest
I'm no expert and only installed one. There was the slack you described with the old one I took off. There was no play with the new one. I believe the shop manual states to start at TDC and set the points so they are just starting to open.
Guest
Advance the cam at least 4 degrees. Most Buick timing gears are retarded when they are straight up.
