Guest
I'm sending a '70 455 to the machine shop soon. In the rebuild I'd like to use .040" Felpro head gaskets to drop the compression down a little to make it more 92 octane gas friendly. Since the valve train is non-adjustable, is there enough preload in the lifters to accomodate the thickness difference or will I have to put adjustable components in the valve train? The Old Guy
If they are going to rebore it ,why not use 71 up pistons. That will drop the compression and you can use standard head gaskets.
Guest
If you're careful and remove all of the casting flash, and rough edges from the combustion chamber you will be ok with the stock gaskets.
