Plymouth head on Dodge block

Hello All,

I am going to install a 1958 Plymouth L-6 head, casting #(1676337-2) on my Dodge 230 block. What is the thread diam. and pitch of the temp. gauge tube nut that is screwed into the head of my existing Dodge head? The Plymouth head has a smaller hole which I think is 1/4" pipe. Can I buy an adapter that will screw into the Plymouth head yet give me the larger thread size I need on the opposite end to fit my temp gauge tube nut, or will I have to drill out and tap the smaller hole in the Plymouth head? Thanks for any advice. :)

this head is set up for the electrical sender...not a mechanical guage. The mechanical guage will require you drill and tap the head for the proper use of the adapter as required for installing the thermo-bulb. Reason for the adapter is that the bulb flange is sealed against the adapter as you thighten the jamb/gland nut..

the original fittings on your 230 head can be re-used for your retrofit..the adapter is NPT..the jamb nut is NPS as best I can determine
