Guest Silverghost
I have in my posession a cup trophy that was awarded to the famous Mad Dr. & Winton "The Vermont" from the ~Interstate Horse & Auto ShowJUNE 5-6 1906Rutland Vt. It was said to have been given to my late great uncle by the Mad Dr. Horatio Nelson Jackson himself The were early automobile buffs. Does anyone know of this early car and horse event ?Is there any extant photo of the Dr or his famousWinton "The Vermont" at this show in 1906 ?Any photos of The Mad Dr. with this tropy cup?here should be a way to research this car/horse show event's history?I wish to trace it's history and possibly loan it to the AACA museum for display! This is a great question for the AACA museumSmithsonian ,Ken Burns or the History Detectives !Brad Hunter215 947 4676 Edited September 21, 2010 by Silverghost (see edit history)

Guest proscriptus
It looks like a one-year only show. I'd suggest contacting the Rutland Herald to see if they have archives from that era, or the Rutland Free Library. The Automobile April 26 1906The Automobile June 14 1906

Guest Silverghost
I am very excited that you found the newspaper clippings on this show ! It must have been a very early auto show indeed along with being an horse event ! I really think that this rare silver cup trophy belongs in the AACA museum or some other place of honor ! You have made the very first step in connecting this trophy cup to a real event in 1906 ! I wish to personally thank you for all your help ! Now I must confirm what our family has always known~BY REAL DOCUMENTED FACTS !It's connection to the historic Winton auto "The VERMONT"and it's owner Dr. Horatio Nelson Jackson."The VERMONT" was the first auto to cross the United States from San Francisco to New York ! My great Uncle was a personal friend of "The Mad Dr." !They often spent vacations together !Dr. Jackson is said to have taken the Winton on a tour after the crossing to promote the use of the early automobile. His historic US Auto crossing was big news in this time period.~Similar to Charles Lindberg's famous flight . Dr. Jackson also LIVED in Vermont and became a very famous citizen there! This is but the first step !Thank you for your help ! If anyone can help me research this great silver trophy cup It would be of great help ~ It is really part of early American Automobile history ! The AACA should display his silver cup trophy! They don't own the Winton~But they might just display the tropy one daysoon ! Thank You !Brad Hunter215 947 4676silverghost1926@msn.com Edited September 27, 2010 by Silverghost (see edit history)
Guest proscriptus
It's the only car & horse show I've ever seen, although I've never researched it. Now I'll have to!
