IM A NEWBIE AND I NEED A LIL HELP!IM TRYING TO DECODE THE DATA PLATE ON MY 56 CUSTOMLINE.IT READS 70 B AE E 6 D 738.I KNOW THE 70B IS FOR CUSTOMLINE TUDOR SEDAN. A IS RAVEN BLACK.E IS COLONIAL WHITE.6 D IS THE 6TH OF APRIL.I DON'T KNOW THE TRIM E OR THE 738.THE 738 IS A DISTRICT CODE BUT I CAN'T FIGURE IT OUT.ANY HELP WOULD BE MUCH APPRECIATED.

the trim code E is: dark gray vinyl and light gray cloth.

i thought the 738 is a production code.

you probably know the first letter of te serial number is the engine code.

you might get better response from a post on the ford site 54 up.

U is 272 cu in, 6 is year, R is richmond[assembled],G is mainline or customline. you already know you have the customline account of the 70B. the 6 digit number is the consecutive serial number all models.

i am sure the 738 is a production code but i do not have the breakdown on that. maybe someone else will respond with more.

6=1956

R=San Jose Ass'y Plt. (Richmond was a regional office)

G= Body style (Fordor Customline)

The last six numbers are the VIN number

Under that:

70B=Customline Tudor Sedan

A=Raven Black

E=(Trim Code) Dark Gray Vinyl and Light Gray Cloth

6D=6th of April

two letters, three numbers, and one letter= production build code
