r0ckstarr
Which is true? Running open headers on your car will or will not hurt your motor? Some say no backpressure reduces torque. Some say straight pipes or open headers allow cold air (when engine is shut down and still hot) to hit hot exhaust valves and quench them, causing brittleness and cracks. But, you see hotrods running nearly stock motors, with open headers all of the time.
The Old Guy
The air going to the valves will be warmed by the headers and by the time it reaches the valves will be hot enough not to cause a problem. By the time the pipes are cool ,the valves will be cool enough also.
r0ckstarr
What about block hugger shorties, versus long tubes? Would there be a difference there?I got my idea for this thread from here:3rd gen camaro siteAfter reading that, it left me curious as to if there was a difference between older engines and the newer stuff (minus the computers and throwing codes).
